And here's another thing that makes a reviewer's word in general better than that of a consumer just buying a game. The reviewer plays the game before deciding how good or not they think it is. The consumer decides to buy a game without having touched it in most cases.

average review has the same issues, but he/she is atleast trying to look at the game's qualities within the general spectrum of gaming instead of simply going to a store and buying what he say on TV and having that count as his "review".

noone's saying the customers are stupid, I'm saying they aren't informed on everything, therefore how can their decision to buy something or not be taken as a review.  They didn't make the choice based on all the possible options, they made it with those presented to them.

Yes you are, you're saying that consumers buy based on what TV tells them, sorry but you really don't know consumers then, most consumers actually do a little looking around, they may even try something before they buy it and ask people who they consider more knowledgeable, consumers are much more informed than you believe.

No game reviewers base their views on what they consider gaming, on what they consider is good, not on what people actually want, which is why there is a huge disparity this gen between the market and reviewers, especially on Wii games.

This is just laughable because you're assuming that something you like is undeniably good or rather that everyone who has bought a game has enjoyed it.

Now, ah, in fairness, he does have a point in equating memorability with sales. If nothing else, mroe people will remember these games just because more people have played them. Wii Sports is the most-played game this generation, and will easily be the best-remembered (or most widely remembered) in many respects.

It's true, they're just linked in the opposite direction that he thinks.  Games will be rememberred because they sold, they won't sell because they are innately memorable.

Sorry, but games wont keep selling if people think they suck, word of mouth is more effective than any marketing, there is a reason Wii gamse sell for months, even years, while other games die off

Doesn't change bad games from having good legs every now and then.

No, you wouldn't because it's slready been given to you. It's like I said, you see things YOUR way. Three-five different people gave you reasonable subjectivity on the matter, and you STILL act like anything you say is always right...

Like I said, it's useless arguing with someone like that...

No, you haven't shown anything, you've shown what you want to believe is true, that game reviews decide game quality, but the facts on the ground say otherwise, people are buying and loving games which get atrocious reviews, while great reviewed games end up in the bargain bin, reviews don't represent the view of the market at large, only a small demographic

What first part?

Not legs that last for years, a bad game wouldn't last that long, word of mouth would kill it
