Forums - Microsoft - Achivements can move up to 40,000 copies of a game.

You should be able to buy stuff with your achievement, like a new sword for your rpg or a new gun for your shooter or get the dlc free if you get 1000/1000 that would make more sense

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

someone should make a game where you get a full 1000 points just for starting the game. it would sell like hotcakes for sure. xD

Avatar.

Well you don't get them for just starting the game but you can get them quicker than it takes to install the game to the HDD.

Achievements sell DLC too......................

I got 1000/1000 for Stranglehold, but shortly after i thought i was done with the game they released some DLC multiplayer maps and another 250 G's.

Yup, my achievement whoring is getting bad (Gonna buy Strangleholds DLC shortly to try 1250/1250 the game)

Well, I know that, all other things being equal, I tend to choose the 360 version because I prefer Achievements to Trophies. Like with Arkham Asylum, if the PS3 didn't have the extra content, I'd have got it on the 360.

I don't understand when people say this. They are the same thing! The only difference is that one is a number and one is an icon. The actual "achievement", ie the thing you do to get that number/icon, is the same. That should really be the most important part, the feeling of knowing you have done it, rather than the visual feedback given.

Each to their own. Personally I just can't be bothered chasing getting three particular kills or whatever. Trophies, Achievements, etc. for me should flow right out of the game, finishing levels at different difficulties, etc.

The only game I ever got 100% on was Fallout 3 and that was because I didn't have to actually chase anything.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Bit sad really but people enjoy it so let them play these shite games that have easy achievments...

When I first heard of achievement points, I thought you would be able to trade them in for merchandise, discounts on shit, and whatnot. I am still really sad that you can't :(.

Damn, beat me to it.

And yes, I did rent the game just for that.  :-p

The only reason I got Batman Arkham Asylum for the PS3 because of the Joker DLC.  99% of time I buy multiplat games for my 360 instead of my PS3.  I do prefer Achievements to trophies too.  I guess it just preference.

*prepare for rant*
Sorry but this is one of my rant topics ;)

When I was young and the Xbox first came out with the idea of 'achievements',
I remember hearing about it and thinking "wow thats a cool idea, you can see that your friend beat a certain level on super hard and then ask for help."

Then when it came time for 'achievements' to be implemented, it turned into a pathetic, ego stroking useless system. Ohhh I just killed 10 guys with a SHOTGUN! Even worse, is the fact that people now try to get as many achievements as possible just to raise some arbitrary score to make them feel like they are a better gamer or something. I actually see people rent/buy games that are easy to get all the achievements for instead of playing a game because its ya know... fun!?

Being a strong PC gamer, I always realized that console games were lacking in gameplay stats that PC games like BF had. So when I first heard about 'achievements', I thought it would be a good step towards more gameplay stats. However, achievements turned into these static, useless milestones for a certain weapon. In my mind I could tell that the game was 'tracking' how many kills I got with a certain weapon. However for some reason the devs would only tell me when I got 20 kills with the sniper rifle. So they track your gameplay but then don't display any of it except for the stupid kill x with y achievements. Some achievements are getting better but most are useless.

I know I am crazy but watching gamers struggle to get a high gamerscore because they think it proves their gaming prowess is humorous. Especially when the achievements are as useless as the self derived pride you get from 'achieveing' one.
I just play games and have fun.... thats it :)

sorry, long day at work ;)

When you were young?  Achievements were only introduced five years ago.  :-p

Anyways, I'm not sure what your problem with achievements are, or more specifically, your problem with other peoples' love to collect them are.  Some people simply like to collect things and those things can be achievements/trophies.  There have been a few games I tried because I knew I could get some easy achievements out of them and ended up loving the game (Bioshock comes to mind).

Achievements are great for people that like to collect things and they are great for getting you to try games you wouldn't otherwise try.
