Poor Wii performance. PS3 will trample it in Japan this year for sure. Nice.

I have to admit, this was pretty funny!
But those claiming vengeance is sweet (in regards to Sony doing better now), are getting a bit ahead of themselves I would say.
OT - I a mpretty disappointed in Wii's numbers. Was expecting (hoping...) something more in the 50k range. This is real slow time of year as people have pointed out but a price cut and a "big" game release (debatable for Wii Fit +) should have countered that.
Anyway, can't wait for the holidays!

Although in this case the Wii (8.55 million) is ahead of the PS3 (3.64 million) by just under 5 million units in Japan.
Japan is actually where Wii has it's biggest lead over the PS3/360 HD twins coming in at 64% of the home console market in JP (as opposed to the ~46% it is in the Americas/Europe)

That will almost certainly not happen, PS3 not even ahead for 2009, let alone trample the Wii.
So many "the Wii is DOOMEZ" posts yet no-one bothered to mention that these sales numbers are for a week where only 4 days had the price cut?
By unscientific extrapolation, taking into account how much the WIi sold in the week before that, had this week been with a price cut from the start, Wii sales would have been around 48,000 ...
[added] Hhow I came by that number? 10,500 / 7 = 1,500 Wii per day just before price cut. 32,000 sold minus three non price cut days = 27,500 sold after price cut. 27,500 /4 = 6875 sold every day after price cut. 6875 x 7 days with price cut = 48,125 Wiis had that week had a price cut from the beginning...[/added]

That math only works with the assumption that the pricecut is not front loaded at all, which is true of most any sales increase. This is why we have to wait for next week to see what affect it will have with going into the future, but you can't just assume that every day it'll well the same amount.

It was only 4 days of the price cut first week for PS3 too. Going by your calculations that would mean PS3 "really" sold 260,293 after it's price cut ...

Keep in mind that the Japan PS3 slim sales were sales of a new SKU + price cut, which behave differently from just a price cut (new SKU would be much more front loaded - have a look at ioi's charts depicting typical sales behavior of a price cut vs. a new SKU vs. a new SKU with a price cut at http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5126).
Anyway, time will tell - instead of jumping to conclusions on Japan, I recommend waiting to see what the Japan numbers are for the week ending October 11th.
By the way, I did mention it was an unscientific calculation, all I wanted to demonstrate is that the picture is not as clear cut as some would like to present it.

...yeah.... but last year and the year before it didn't have a price cut.... if the Ps3 only sold 19k after the price cut i bet you would be one of the first to call it a flop...
