Forums - Microsoft - New SKU for X360 with a HD-DVD?

So GTAIV will be release on Xbox360HD only ???????

I m joking.

But at least, it make sense to the Paramount sense :
"we become exclusive to HD DVD BUT you push the HD DVD with your console."

(I assume Microsoft is behind the Paramount move to become HD DVD exclusive.)

Well, the war between the 2 format will take longer but all depend of the price of this model.

and yes what is the interest for gaming since a lot of people doesn't the HD DVD for their Xbox360...

EDIT : it also show how Microsoft want to catch the PS3 adding Elite and now this model.

They don't force you to buy it; it'll be mainly for HD movies. And I doubt any game will be released in HD-DVD, they'll get them in multiple DVDs, like Blue Dragon.

AND what will happen for those who don't have HD-DVD ...
Can we buy the same game ?!

 not another one......

TOO MANY SKUs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm losing track of all the different 360's and PS3's

Senior Sony executives are according to one senior insider acting like “Stunned Mullets” today following the decision by key Blu-ray partner JB HiFi to drop its exclusive support for Blu-ray and start selling the Toshiba backed HD DVD format.

...

Wow, this is the real news.

I was wondering if JB would do this - without HD-DVD support they would miss out on lots of revenue. And HD-DVD without JB support, would almost be dead in the water in Australia.

Its actually really good news for consumers - more choice, lower prices.

They also have a "budget" reputation, so selling the cheaper of the technologies (rather than just the premium one) does make sense IMO.

Maybe I will pick up Transformers some time (next year) - its the only movie I would consider getting in HD format at the moment (everything else - DVD is more than good enough!).

Well, if this happens, Sony will have to struggle even more than they are ATM...and that's hard. O_o

Hmm not really,  it would only be a danger for sony if they would make HD-DVD games but that is impossible because their are already 12 million X360's sold without HD-DVD.

I really don't know if this will have a big influence on sales.

and even 7 million of them work! LOL... this'll never happen.

In some exciting news for HD-DVD fans, Scott Browning, one of the most experienced CE retail marketing executives in Australia, has revealed that Microsoft is preparing to launch a new Xbox 360 console featuring a built in HD-DVD drive.

"The fact that movie houses like Paramount are behind the HD-DVD format along with the like of DreamWorks is key. I believe that more content providers will get behind the format and that the likes of Microsoft who are big supporters of the HD DVD format will bring out an Xbox with a built in HD DVD player. This is a given."

Actually, read carefully. There is no confirmation or comment from MS at all about launching a 360 with a HD-DVD drive - and it doesn't even make sense.

This is simply an analyst saying that he thinks it will happen - and I think most people are certain it won't happen. It just doesn't make sense.

So people are just going to ignore this?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

What is there to not ignore. We have a defector spouting a theory. This same guy had a theory that BluRay would be like totally dominant. The story is that Toshiba got a new friend, and Sony lost a loyalist. They lost a lot of bragging rights. So ask yourself how much faith you have in this prediction given the track record, and the theorists financial bias. Oh yeah like he is going to say I think this format is going to fail, and not get overwhelming support.

People are ignoring the salient facts in the original article. This is a public relations disaster for Sony. They lost exclusive support of their product, and now have to eat dual support.

MS make asswads of themselves if they do this, having hacked at Sony all along for integrating BluRay in the PS3.
It'll be the most hypocritical and idiotic move in X-box history, and not even avid MS supporters will be impressed...
Move away from HD alltogether is what they should do, since they clearly state that it's not needed yet or at all. I find it strange that a software company opposes development in media, but that may be stupid of me, I don't know if anyone agrees.
