Forums - Sales - Reggie: Walmart is Nintendo's Best North American Customer

Well Walmart and Toys R Us aren't tracked by NPD directly but they have estimates for sales in those stores through inference.

Seriously why is anyone suprised at this ?

I would expect Gamestop to be stronger in the software business and Wall Mart to be stronger in the hardware business..( easier to preorder at Gamestop for example and more choice generally).

Wall Mart is very good for on the spot purchase too, whereas you already know you are looking for gaming stuff when you walk into a Gamestop...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Does this mean Madworld really sold 1 million?

It's not easy to bring new content to the market to revitalise sales. Games take 2 years to make on average. I'm not sure I like some of Reggie's answers in that light.

I find this interesting as it probably means Best Buy / Game Stop are the best customers for Microsoft and Sony given the different clientele the stores and products appeal to

That is interesting... it's also interesting just based on the fact that NPD doesn't track it.  Meaning depending on how they have their estimating calculations set up they may need to "tweak" them.

Of course i wonder how he means "best".  It could just mean they buy the most... and not have any relation to sony or microsoft.

couldn't wal-mart easily be the biggest customer for all 3? It certainly is the biggest retailer in the US by a long ways.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

This is exactly what he meant, I don't see how it could be taken any other way lol

Not really a shocker. Wii is sold out at my local Wal-Mart right now and it's always an absolute madhouse in the Nintendo section during any Christmas rush.

I thoguht I was their best customer : (
