Yeah Nintendo's all about legs that just keep stretching out longer and longer forever. This is a good initial boost, but now that Wii's at the mass market price point, it's all about marketing and getting the word out, which will take a while (Black Friday advertising will take care of this though).

Wii Sports Resort, Beatles, price cut, Wii Fit +, New SMB Wii, Black Friday, Spirit Tracks, Christmas. In the game of marketing, Nintendo stacks its power-ups wisely.

I predicted 400k WW first week when they announced the cut, maybe, if Japan wakes up, it's possible.

Edit: In EU Wii Fit Plus launch is at the end of October, so if it doubles here too, we can say the system seller is almost totally the price cut.

I'm actually more curious about next week's sales, because as the article posted, more and more retailers were seeing the demand rise and the week went on. I think now that people have a good idea about the Wii price drop, and with the release of Wii Fit Plus (which will be pretty big methinks ), we'll see some pretty decent numbers for Wii come next Thursday.

Of course, this week will be interesting as well.

So Wii's sales are possibly even greater than the sales of the PS3 slim's first week in NA, not bad, not bad at all



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

While I highly doubt Wii is sold out everywhere (come on, they have stockpiles of these things ready). Individual stores selling out is a pretty common thing.

 

At my local Best Buy Wii's were sold out.
