Forums - Sony - PSP Go - It only does Everything WRONG

"unergonomic, cramped controls (especially the L/R buttons) "

nothing obvious here imo

I think the Go is much more confortable than the original PSP... I still won't buy it though

excuse me thats PS3's slogan, not PSP GO's

Clever what you did there. ;)

Now for the more obvious flaws:
- fewer features than previous PSPs, but at a crazy high price (250 EUR in Europe, that's 365 USD)
What fewer features???

fewer features like not being able to play the UMDs we bought, or use duo sticks to expand memory, and needing to buy a retarded dongle for any addons

- DRM'd games are sold for up to 40 USD online
Games are sold for up to 40 USD at retail... this makes no sense to me...

having to rebuy games and not have some sort of transfer or trade in policy by sony

- built-in battery that can't be replaced
Pandora battery. Blame users, not SONY for trying to protect their money.

I blame sony it was a design choice, but honestly i dont care about this one, i support built in batteries makes for cleaner design... but dont blame users

- smaller screen than previous PSPs
Also more crisp

eh wash in my mind both are true

- unergonomic, cramped controls (especially the L/R buttons)
Personal preference. I find the DSLite quite uncomfortable. Most people say it's fine.

I think unergonomic is a fiar complaint, but the psp has always tended to comfort in smaller hands, clears sony hates those of us with large hands

- old, outdated and error prone wireless protocol (802.11b)
The old models are better?

should have upgraded it to G or N, you dont get points by staying in the past

- downloads can't be resumed and take forever
And the old platforms are better?? You can redownload your stuff. Also use a pc or ps3 for the downloads.

this should be fixed thats a big freaking problem, we should not have to lean on pc/or home console for functionality

- PSP can't be used for anything else while downloading
The old models are better?

actually yea I can i had to open my first gen psp to check but i can do background downloading while watching a tv show, cool, didnt know i could do that

- proprietary plug instead of USB as in previous PSPs, need to buy special Sony cord

Buy??? IT FUCKIN COMES WITH IT!!!

goes back to the eliminating all peripherals you may have bought for the psp, need that freaking adapter to use them, but at least sony made the adapter, unlike what it did for umd

It is beyond me how this abomination managed to make it out into he wild (well, at least into those stores who don't boycott it for obvious reasons). It doesn't reflect well on a company to release a product like this. And if you buy a PSP Go at this point, it doesn't reflect well on your state of mind.

What am I supposed to say here??? Sorry we have different gaming preferences??? Sorry if the Go fits my needs and not yours??? Sorry if I like a product and you don't??

The majority of your complaints are a current psp owner upgrading or purchasing a Go, if you would stop and think about the psp-Go you would realize it is meant to appeal to new customers, appeal to the ipod/iphone users, appeal to the casual crowd, appeal to those who like the digital distruption.

Now after you take that into consideration then the psp-Go does its job.

no, as an ipod iphone crowd member im used to being forced into upgrading, but never am i forced out of my content.

as i said earlier it is clear that sony is trying to copy apple but they do a fail job of it by not have an at least temporary plan for content movement between the too. it is an unnecessary device that is a money grab with no real advantage over the prior model unless you consider size an advantage, honestly its far more crippled with the 16gb of space (really sony you clouldnt have doubled that, or you know let us use our memory stick duos )

come play minecraft @  mcg.hansrotech.com

minecraft name: hansrotec

XBL name: Goddog

LOL. Such divided opinions. Only time will tell. I sure hope digital distribution doesn't become standard.

iphones are 600 USD, why are you comparing them toa 249usd gaming device?

no UMD is kinda the point. 16Gb's internal from the get go is the replacement to the PSP+Memstick combo. Then you have the option of adding more.

Again, this is only affecting upgraders. SONY isn't looking at the upgrading crowd for this device. And it's clear they don't intend for the Go to be the bulk of sales.

Yes. A design choice that went horribly wrong. nothing to do now but to correct it.

I'll give you this one.

True. but the system comes with the disc for media go. So i think it's clear SONY wants you to use PC. I also doubt the crowd that buys the PSPGo doesn't own a PS3 or PC... that would be wierd...

Never seen or heard about this b4. and I've had two PSP Phats and a 2001 model. Can you show me a vid of this being done or something?? Also, is your psp running custom fw?

- proprietary plug instead of USB as in previous PSPs, need to buy special Sony cord

Apple doesn't continue  manufacturing the older models like SONY plans to do with PSP3000 and UMD's. That would leave you to believe the Go's for new comers, not upgraders. There's no doubt that SONY wants the iPhone/Touch crowd to look at the product but I doubt that's the on purpose of the system and i doubt it's the main focus either.

being an apple fana boy i hate to say this, but this seems to be sony saying, hmm we need to be like apple. though i will say apple always gave us a few years worth transition software for our old apps/games

I disagree, I think Sony is saying

"Hmmmm Apple has a market all to itself. Let's introduce some competition. We can do everything the Ipod touch can and more"

PSP 1000, 2000, 3000 FTW!

But you can find cheaper copies at ebay, amazon, etc. For PSPGo, you only have one place to get your games from at only one price. Also you can't try out the games before you buy them, unless there's a demo available. Let's say you took the risk and bought a game, but you ended up not liking it. You won't be able to get any money from it since you can't trade it in or sell it.

With the earlier models, I can rent PSP games via GameFly and decide whether to purchase it or not. No risk involved.

Great article!

Regarding demos, I think that's one of the main features PSN should focus on. For pretty much every game.
