Forums - Sales Discussion - The bigger question is.. will Wii outsell ps3?

@avinash ya about 65k in NA, but PS3 still outsold it in Japan by about 10k, and PAL barely had a price cut, so I think it will be about equal in PAL. Also another thing to consider is that PS3 sales WENT up this week which was not expected at all. Next week should be a VERY important week.

Quote me: The Wii price cut will not have as much effect as people think.

yup, especially in Japan

double quoted for emphasis.

I'm thinking the wii will still sell considerably but without big name titles coming out more frequently, it will start to lose its massive hold

Good thing it has Wii Fit + and NSMB as well as quite a few moderate titles releasing. Next year there will be tons of more large titles releasing as well.

Wait, somebody thinks PS3 will be "back on top" in a week...

The PS3 was going to drop below the Wii in another couple weeks, without a Wii price cut.

That's what people said on Slim launch, before slim launch and ever since the Slim launch. Look what happened there.

The PS3 dropped every week since the price cut?  I don't get what you are trying to say.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

First off you don't know how much PS3 and Wii sold in Japan, the Japanese preview is a range, and not always accurate, in fact the two ranges overlap, so for all you know Wii edged out the PS3.

Actually europe did have a drop of 50 euros and UK had a new bundle, easily causing sales to rise, and Wii was selling about 20K less last week before the price cut, so its probably selling a good deal more now.

So no, the gap will likely be larger than 40k, and what with Wii fit Plus releasing in the US today, expect next week to also have the Wii leading

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

^^how much of a sales boost do you expect from Wii Fit Plus? Just curious

Yet in NA it had an increase this week.

What i am saying is, a LOT people have been saying Wii will be back above PS3 in a couple of weeks ever since the Slim launched, including myself. Which didn't happen.

While i dont agree with what rafichamp says, you saying "The PS3 was going to drop below the Wii in another couple weeks" isn't necessarily true at all.

IMO the Wii will out sell the PS3 for a few weeks, and IF Sony can maintain the PS3 momentum, PS3 might go back to outselling the Wii. But yes, Wii will definitely outsell PS3 this week. And to everyone saying that the Wii would outsell PS3 without a price cut ... please, grow up. I lol when people say PS3 sales were going down week after week, true, but the last drop was like what..? 8%? People were expecting it to plummet another 20% at least, but it sure showed us wrong. Also NA sold MORE PS3's this week so far than last week, approximately 5k more, and this is NA, which is 360 territory.

I'm not certain, but I expect very healthy sales of both Wii and Wii fit plus this week in NA

I'm pretty certain the the PS3 sales bounce had to do with Ninja Gaiden
