NSMBW will not directly drive hardware sales (people will not buy the console for this game) however it will make the lineup of Wii software quite a lot stronger and so will make the console a more attractive proposition.

So look for a smaller bump at the start but a slight increase in the average sales over the long term.

No, I don't think so.

Galaxy 2 is probably going to outsell this 3:1.

Reverse this comment completely, and you have your answer.

Also I believe Ninty should be very disappointed if NSMBW doesn't make 10M lifetime.

I am going to be laughing SO LOUD at all the naysayers!!!

Spinoff? Port? Unsucsessfull?

MUHUhahAHAHA!!!
Mario Bros is going to become a houshold word again like it used to be.

*Expecting A LOT of embarressed people soon*

I have a hard time seeing this game selling less than 20 million lifetime. With numbers like that it must push harware. Not in the immediate Halo 3 way, but in the gradual word of mouth way like Wii Sports, or Wii Fit, or pretty much any of the big Nintendo games this generation. Bundles would give and initial hardawre boost though, especially if they have a special colour.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

I honestly see very little hype for this game from Nintendo themselves. Nintendo just doesn't hype their games anymore.

No doubt it will move HW and SW, but not as much HW as people believe, since the game isn't even remotely being hyped and secondly there are already at aleast 17+ million people (Being it the worst case if you don't take into account that besides MKWii there's plenty of other Mario games) who have bought a Mario game on their Wii. Unless there's a sudden appearance of Mario fans, I doubt the impact will be as huge as many are saying.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

yep it will shift a load of wii's

Of course it is a system seller.
Especially those people that have no friends.
It's like you suddenly got 3 friends to play with you.

It's a guaranteed hit.

trestres, hype isn't an indicator of selling systems. GTA IV was far more hyped than MK Wii, and the latter was a better system seller. And besides, most of the lack of hype is from the gaming community, and they kind of failed to stop the Wii from selling in the first place with lack of hype.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

2D Mario has always moved hardware.

2D Mario is gaming in a very pure form, it will no doubt draw people in. Word of mouth will be huge, legs will be massive.

I LOVE ICELAND!
