That's the thing, weather you agree with it or disagree with it, flashing/chipping is a big thing for the 360, Wii, DS, PSP and PS2, A lot of people would be shocked if they ever release actual numbers about it!

Yeah. Here hardly any kids under the age of 20 buy any games for the X360 because everyone naturally hear from each other in school that modding your X360 is the way to go. Most small gamestores offer modding/chipping for the equivalent of $20-30, but i guess most kids get their friends to do it.
That's why in software sales in Sweden the PS3 is selling almost as much as the X360, while in console unit sales X360 is much much bigger than PS3. So the software attach rate on X360 here must be quite bad.
Confirmed fake fucking day 1 new was released on it. Morons keep dragging this up though. Guy who made it released and "installation" video for it, which was him just opening it up, cleaning thermal paste off and reapplying to the CPU and GPU, then putting it back together trying to pass it off as a mod chip installation.

However, this may be about to change if a rumored Belzar mod chip turns out to be true. Besides supporting PS2 and PS3 bootleg games, the hardware-based hack promises many other functions ranging from stealth mode (read: To make the chip harder to detect by Sony) to region-free DVD/Blu-ray Disc playback. |
THE NEWS IS ABOUT 3 MONTHS OLD AND WAS SHOWN TO BE A BLATENT HOAX WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS OF BEING REPORTED....

Soooo, what are the legal uses of a chipped/flashed console?
I'm not quite sure how someone can be a major fan of a particular console and then use the means by which hard working game developers can be cheated out of getting paid for making games for their favourite console.
I think it is also unfair of people to lay pricay at the door of people in the Free Software Movement by suggesting that now the PS3 doesnt directly support linux modding/chipping will follow on fast. All the FSM folks I know utterly detest piracy as much as they detest proprietary software. FSM devotees want to bring down Microsoft (and others) by providing people with legitimate non-proprietary alternatives to Microsoft's proprietary malware (as they describe it). They don't seek to do it by pirating the very proprietary software they want to destroy.
Software pirates don't give a shit about Linux and the free software movement. In fact Linux and the FSM are bad for the piracy business, after all where's the money in piracy if all software is only paid for on a voluntarily basis?
I'm not squeaky clean by any means. But I try to only play close to the edge of the cliff when it comes to copyright not jump right off.

I didn't make the laws!
If there is a demand for flashed/chipped consoles then I will help supply that demand seeing as it is legal to do so, I just flash/chip the console, It is not down to me what the people do with them but I do state that they must own the game if they wish to play backups as that is also totally legal as long as you own the original and don't want it to get damaged (the 360 is known to damage discs).
Look on xbox scene, people do have them flashed for totally legal reasons, xbox scene is legal in every way.
And for the record, just because someone has a flashed or chipped console doesn't mean they aren't a fan of that console lol, I'm a huge 360 fan, I buy many retail games, arcade games, DLC, pay for xbox live etc, I spend more than most on my 360 gaming.
I've got Forza 3 and Modern Warefare 2 on pre-order, I recently bought DiRT 2 and ODST, I buy loooads of games!
I think PS3 will not be modded... it´s because all costs and changes needed are so big... it´s a virtual machine with many checkpoints all around, no 24 wires chip hack will be enought, unic thing could be enought should be a Custom Firmware followed by hardware update, at least on the reader, main gpu bus and memory patch.
So, thanks god I hope this PS3 generation will no be hacked at all!!!!

and in middle east also
There would be no way for modding the ps3 anytime soon. The only possibility could be through the firmware and the hardware does check in the form of treasure hunt.
