Soooo, what are the legal uses of a chipped/flashed console?
I'm not quite sure how someone can be a major fan of a particular console and then use the means by which hard working game developers can be cheated out of getting paid for making games for their favourite console.
I think it is also unfair of people to lay pricay at the door of people in the Free Software Movement by suggesting that now the PS3 doesnt directly support linux modding/chipping will follow on fast. All the FSM folks I know utterly detest piracy as much as they detest proprietary software. FSM devotees want to bring down Microsoft (and others) by providing people with legitimate non-proprietary alternatives to Microsoft's proprietary malware (as they describe it). They don't seek to do it by pirating the very proprietary software they want to destroy.
Software pirates don't give a shit about Linux and the free software movement. In fact Linux and the FSM are bad for the piracy business, after all where's the money in piracy if all software is only paid for on a voluntarily basis?
I'm not squeaky clean by any means. But I try to only play close to the edge of the cliff when it comes to copyright not jump right off.
