Forums - Sony - MOtorstorm Pacific rift undertracked (confirmed)

Sony opened new site http://www.worldwidestudios.net (it is awesome btw) there you can read about their first party studios, and other interesting stuff. One ifno caught my eye, and here it is. Click on "Evolution studio" and there you can read following:

""MotorStorm" was developed as one of the PLAYSTATION®3 launch titles, and sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide, as well as picking up awards including a Develop Industry Excellence Award, and an Annual Interactive Achievement award for Racing Game of the Year, in 2007. The sequel, "MotorStorm: Pacific Rift", reached one million sales just six weeks after release." http://www.worldwidestudios.net/evolution

Now please don't ever try to spin this one. Here are VGchartz numbers http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=22061 or for lazy 750k WW after 47!!! weeks on market. So there are either 250k on shelves and game has not sold 1 single copy after 6th week, or this game(as obvious) is heavly undertracked.

They shipped 1 million copies. Ive seen many Pacific Rifts on shelves in game stores. 250,000 copies could be on shelves around the world and waiting in the bargain bins.

Tbh i don't think it sold any copies after the 6th week hence its still at 750,000.

Or maybe you should think of it like this.

Motorstorm 1 sold lots of units.

So sony shipped lots of Motorstorm pacific rift thinking that it would sell lots and lots.
But because of the "poorer" then expected sales they never did a 2nd shipment.

That could be a good reason why. Or maybe you are right but i think mine is more logical then yours but we will just wait and see. VGC sales are inline with other tracking firms so if VGChartz is wrong so are they.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

well, we do know that 6 weeks after release is shipped, but I do agree this means it must be under tracked to some extent. Even if you shipped 1m at 6 weeks you would expect to be through stock before the year is out. The fact that they don't claim more units shipped at a later date (like the 3.5m claim for the original) points toward the total sold being close to 1m units, but probably a little higher.

Japan can't really be under tracked due to open numbers from both Famitsu and MediaCreate. NA should also be correct for the 1st month of sales. Given the low quantity of sales in the US and Others there is a good chance that both of those regions are slightly under tracked (150k low on each maybe?) Ultimately you'll have to wait to see what ioi says, but I wouldn't think the game is massively under tracked (like in reality 2m units are sold)

However, the game has still done poorly compared to the original. Granted the original was heavily bundled which is unfair to really compare the two games sales.

so from the 6th week to the 47th week, Motorstorm: PR sold slim to none?

I don't think its possible that there are just a whole lot of copies in bargain bins. There is already a platinum version in others with the modified case... why would they bother making all those if there are spare copies of the non-platinum version everywhere?

Sony shipped slim to none.
