this just in: Xbox 360/PS3s gameplay value outdated by november 19 2006. i feel graphics have some importance, but when it comes down to it they cant cacel out gameplay. if graphics were the big thing then we would not have videogames today because the NES and such would have bombed miserably. the wiis gameplay is something microsoft and sony will never be able to touch with any advanced graphics. but i think your right, an advanced form of the wii could be out by then. its hardly unthinkable, they already talk about the "Wii2" or whatever they call it.
A delayed game is good someday, a bad game is bad forever.

Technically speaking a current high end gaming PC should be able to out due the 360 and PS3 by quite a margin. It all comes down to how this hardware will be used in the coming years, not it's brute strength or ability to push polys.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"
As for talking about the power of the wii, it is marginaly weaker then the original xbox (3 megabytes of ram if I remeber correctly) I don't think that the wii will be able to beat the PS3 in the long run. The PS3 if lucky will have just enough developers to show the casual fans that the motion sensing controls on the PS3 are better and that the pointer is useless.
Guys - graphics are pretty much irrelevant now. We have hit photo-realistic images, lovely 3D, procedural animation, special effects and more. The difference between the Xbox & PS3 isn't that high - so much so, that Sony's selling point for this generation is "high-definition" (increased resolution) {yawn}. I spent most of last night playing Legend of Zelda 1 - a NES title. The graphics suck, but the game rocks - and I had a great time. Its irrelevant - graphics are now good enough. Its time to explore new forms of games - be it through networking, multiplayer, control systems.. or something else.

I don't think Wii's going to be lagging behind in terms of graphics, the first Wii games were done in less than a year because nobody was betting on Nintendo anymore, devs started working on the Wii only after the E3 2006. The first generation games for the console are graphically aweful, but the next wave is gonna rock. Moreover the Wii don't need ti live 10 years, if it keep selling that pace it could reach the 100 million user base in 5 years how knows? And at this price nobody cares if we have to buy a new one 5 years latter, or maybe devs won't like to change every few years...
