Notice that this comes up shortly after we find out GT5 is delayed (Again)... Expect many more articles like this over the next couple months... It is a FUD tactic...

The only thing I agree with is that development studios should not take shots (veiled or unveiled) at other development studios. The rest is fanboy craziness. Both racers will be great... One is shipping earlier then the other which gives it an advantage, especially since it is during the holiday season.

Delayed? when was the first officially announced release date?

Either delayed or stringing people along take your pick...  For the past three years of conferences Sony has shown GT5.  Sony was either deceiving fans by showing "vapourware" or delaying the releases...

Either way, it is wrong to do this to your consumers.

Microsoft has a similar story for Alan Wake.  The difference is that they have explicitly delayed it.  With Sony you don't really know when a game will actually ship.  The first time we see it may mean within the next 6 months to 4 years (Killzone 2)...

They showed GT5 in the past years but did they announce an offcial release date that they can't meet?

And you said it was delayed again so i assume they announced a release date multiple times that I haven't heard of.

You're picking at straws.

Why show software years before it is released?

You are either trying to "freeze" sales in the market to encourage consumers to wait for your release (GT5) or you are fearful that consumers will choose the releasing product (Forza 3) over your product because consumers won't see or feel a significant difference.

You need to clarify the definition of delay.

If they are not able to release the game on March 2010 in Japan then that's a delay.

Rofl. This was funny.

4 ≈ One

When you are the underdog any press is good press so turn 10's arrogance isn't nearly as bad as some people try to make it out. In the end it will generate buzz for their product and will associate it with other good racing sims like GT5.

Expect Forza to be huge this holiday if they keep up the press.

I have no respect at all for Turn 10 anymore. They lied about their photo's being from actual "gameplay" when they were taken from photo mode. They talked shit about GT, and have made other rediculous statements. Really though, it's sad, because while they haven't made the greatest racing game that will ever be like they seem to believe, going by the demo it's still really good.
At the same time, this article is equally stupid. The writer goes out of his way to attack parts of the game for no reason. He's a fanboy. Still, his article has some truth in there.

I should not have used the word "delayed".

In the software industry the life of the product being state-of the-art is typically about 3 years.

When you start advertising your product three years before it ships that is equivalent to GM, Toyota, or BMW marketing a car that will ship in 2025.  Technology changes so much and at such a rapid pace, that when a game like KZ2 actually shipped it ended up not being that far ahead of CoD: WaW/MW, or Gears 2.  Yes, it is ahead but not by as much as the marketing people had you thinking it was in 2005 when they first showed the product...

Same is true for GT5.  They were showing it when Forza 2 shipped saying that it was way better.  Here we are a few years later and the difference between the shipping Forza 3 and GT5 from most consumer's point of view will be very small.  To me that is just as bad, if not worse then a Turn 10 employee sputing off that Forza 3 is the definitive racer and is years ahead of the competion.  At least the Turn 10 people are being straight forward and up front.  Sony, is simply using implicit marketing tactics playing to customer loyalty to try and guarantee sales of their products.

They (MS and affiliates) act this way because they are Americans. Not only is this how Americans like other Americans to act, but this is also how other countries expect Americans to act.

In America, the best way to get noticed is to talk a lot of shit about something else and act like yours is the best shit on the planet. Look at Turn 10, look at that assclown from gears of War, and the folks at MS itself. In America, you need to be an asshole.

If your typical American company says something, you take what he says his value is, and subtract a few points from it to get the actual score.
If your typical Japanese company says something, you take what he says the value is, and add a few points to get the actual score, because your typical Japanese will be humble and say that his value isn't that high.

Typical starting values for the same product, as presented to a Japanese audience:
American: 10
Japanese: 4

after modifier:
American: 10-3=7
Japanese: 4+3=7

Typical starting values for the same product, as presented to a Japanese audience:
American: 10
Japanese: 4

after modifier:
American: 10=10
Japanese: 4-3=1

I have travelled around the world quite a bit.  Although I agree with your comments for the most part, there is the issue of GT being such a well known brand.  How do you get your product noticed when you are going up against such a large and entrenched brand?  If you are humble no one will try it...  If you are an ass, then many try and discuss it to try and prove you wrong.  If your product is good you successfully start to deteriorate brand loyalty of the other product.  If it is crap then no one ever listens to you again.

Given that Forza 2 was a solid competitor to GT without Turn 10 spouting off, I think this is simply a marketing tactic to draw attention to their product when most would have overlooked it and waited for GT.

I'm just saying that forza needs to do this. They really have no choice.

well this is a tough one, but i think i will agree or disagree to this article when i get my hands on the game demo this thursday.

il be giving my full impressions.
