Forums - PC - Radeon HD3000 series is here!... what?

wow Radeon 2xxx series sure didn't last long.

I just want ATI to deliver somthing to throw off Nvidia off their crown which seems impossible after seeing the disappointing 2900 :(
Nvidia's been milking with the 8800s for too long for that high price.

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.

Are you all stuck in Nvidia fanboy mode?

The RV670 (HD3000) core is an R600 run at 825+ MHz plus AA fixes. This means its performance will be significantly higher than the HD2900XT (the HD2900XT is about equal to the 8800GTS) and so this new line will be at least as powerful as the 8800GTX while being around $250 and on the new 55nm process making it very power efficient. This information is widespread and consistent. There is likely to be a clocked-down version equal to the HD2900XT/8800GTS at $200 too. The R680 core will be the high-end variant of the RV670 and will be released in Q1 2008. That should be easily more powerful than an 8800Ultra and cost less than a current GTX.

Then, in the middle of next year, the R700 (entirely new architecture) should arrive, bringing even more performance.

All of these will support QUAD CROSSFIRE.

Nvidia has no plans to support DirectX 10.1, but ATI will introduce it in the RV670 series.

The open-source drivers are progressing well, and ATI will add AIGLX support to their fglrx driver this month which will support Compiz Fusion, adding to the across-the-board 100%+ performance improvement last month.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Crossfire and SLI are useless unless you're building a $3000+ gaming rig that you want to sound like a jet airplane.

What about the other attributes?

I have an ATi now (X1950XTX), but ATi is falling slightly behind for some reason, I think maybe they were too tied up in the last gen of chipsets to beat Nvidia (which they did according to most).

hmmm, I have a 7800gt and I recently upgraded the mobo, ram, and CPU an intel setup (e2160 @ 3.0ghz too), but the motherboard supports crossfire. I'd probably stick with my card till something major happens. I'm hoping that if the 9xxx series from Nvidia is really a lot more powerful than the 8xxx's, then I could take advantage of price drops, or just save up and get a powerful card.

What about them?  IMO no PC game is worth three grand and a jet airplane in my room.

@Game_Boy, you sort of made my point again...not sure what to say.

Look at how far behind the 8800s ATI released comparable cards, now throw in the idea that Q1 means April-June time frame and you can see that ATI is most certainly a few months behind NVidia. If it takes NVidia 6 months to release a new entry to the high end market then we can say ATI has closed the gap and we have good race again.

I am all about best bang for buck, I don't care if that is Nvidia, ATI, etc...so long as its a reputable company. Although I do like evga as a manufacturer.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Man who cares? Videocards are instantly out-of-date when they come out anyway, just deal with lesser settings guys. I think 2004 top-end graphics is about where I stopped caring if it looks any more awesome.

I've got a 7800 GT since 18 months ago and in 6 months I'm gonna buy another 7800 GT and do some SLI baby! The 7800s are only $125 right now too, teehee!
