Forums - Sony - IGN : PSP Go! REVIEW --- 7.2/10 (VALUE = questionable!)!!

I really can't see people's problem with the PSP-Go (except for the ergonomics argument, that is a design flaw). If Sony had discontinued the PSP-3000 then I'd understand perfectly, except they didn't. The PSP-Go is not designed nor was it intended for current PSP owners. It is intended for non-PSP owners who find the current PSP both too large, too awkward with having to carry around a bunch of UMD's, and too slow to load off the UMD drive.

Yes the price is high, as has been explained a bunch of times, a large part of that is margin for retailers to compensate for nil second hand games sales. And like all electronic devices, the price will drop as demand drops, if this flops (I suspect it will sell poorly initially) then the price will be cut so that Sony can recuperate development costs.

If you want a PSP that has a UMD drive, buy a PSP-3000. If you want a PSP for $179, buy a PSP-3000. If you have a bunch of UMD games and your PSP dies, buy a PSP-3000. If the idea of a digital download only device scares you, buy a PSP-3000. If you want a smaller, more portable PSP and don't care for UMD, buy a PSP-Go, if you think its too expensive, wait until it gets a price drop. Its not rocket science.

I don't get you guys sometimes.

At first, DD was the future, now it's not.
Targeting other customers was great, now it's not.

If SONY does it, it's wrong.

lol, yeah thats about it..

Ok. It can play PSP games just not UMD's. So then are all the PSP games that are on UMD being uploaded to PSPgo's network?

Ok. You tell me something since you seem to know more about it more than me. The PSP-3000 looks really appealing to me right now for various reasons. I do understand that the PSPgo is also a multimedia beast, but If I only want one system, and the go being the newest PSP in the market, why should I choose a go? What's in it that makes it a "must have" compared to a 3000?

I forgot what last I read... but it said either 450 games added to the store on the PSPGo's launch, or 450 games on the PSN Store for PSP by the end of the year. Either way, one things confirmed. Expect a flood of games added October first.

As for you other questions. Depends. If you just want games, go for the 3000. If you're mainly after multimedia I don't see why you would choose the 3000 over the Go unless you're on a low budget. If it's Semi both of if you're just into pick up and play, I would say Go but it really depends on you.

Pause Game Feature.
Most likely more apps available for it than the 3000.
Lighter/Thinner
Bluetooth
Doesn't have the video game look when used for music and vids

These 5 reasons would make me choose the Go over the 3000 if I was buying it for more than just games...

word! PSP games on PSN! That makes up for not having umd's. I don't know I guess thats kinda cool. I take back some things I said about the go then. I just hope it's not too small for my hands.

That will suck though when you trade it in and the games are traded in with it.

The games will be linked to your PSN account, so of course you won't be trading them in with it.

Lets just wait what will happen to this Tech in the future.

no it isn't leo-j

I never needed over 1GB

"all its features".....it had music in it....didn't need more than 800mb for that.

You just made it perfectly clear you've yet to download hardly any games form the PSN store... So I must ask... What is the problem??? Get a regular PSP. Why did you sell your PSP and then start complaining about the Go???

You sold your sold your system for something that wasn't confirmed.
You sold your system for one that was rumored to no have a UMD slot.
You sold your system for a rumored system without knowing the systems price.

And now you keep spouting about how SONY are the ones that fucked up...

I did all that in confidence SONY would do things that made sense......rumored to have no UMD slot seemed silly & the price....lmao, tell me Dgc, DID YOU before E3 even consider it could cost $249, I doubt you did.

what they did has made no sense to anyone except their shareholders

Don't blame me, blame my trust in SONY which they destroyed with a rcoket launcher pounding out a $249 missile.

No-one keeps on spouting nonsense, I do not enjoy spouting nonsense against my favorite gaming company ever, bu they REALLY messed up this time, BIG time.

Personally, I don't think (or hope) that DD is the future. I like physical copies of my games, for many reasons...

Targeting other customers is always good, but targeting more customers is the idea. The removal of UMD makes them exclude most previous PSP owners, which is likely a mistake. The games being available only through download is also a concern.

I do think people are being a bit hard on the system, though (mainly attacking the high price point). Sony is obviously going for the multimedia device [that also plays games!] route on this machine, which seems odd considering their recent stance on the PS3 - putting more focus on the games. We'll see if it works for them.

If I had lots more money on me, I'd probably pick up the PSP Go. I like my handhelds small, and the PSP Go's design somehow appeals to me. It probably helps I need both a new media player and a PSP, and it looks like it could do nearly everything I'd want from something like an iPod touch. I'm way too price-conscious to do it when there's a far cheaper PSP out there, though.
