Forums - Sales - Xbox 360 sales in 2007 hit 4.0 million

Looking through the data I keep track of I noticed:

360 hardware sales have hit 4.0 million units in 2007 for the week ending Oct 13, 2007 - with 11 weeks left in the year.

360 sales in 2007 - for the first time since the European PS3 launch - overtook PS3 sales in 2007 on the week ending September 30, 2007 (Halo 3 week)

In other news, PS3 looks to be about 2-3 weeks away from selling 4.0 million units in 2007, while Wii seems to be about 2-3 weeks away from selling 10.0 million units in 2007.

If current average weekly rates for all of 2007 - for each of the consoles were to continue (unaffected by price, big games, supply, etc), Wii would reach 15.0 million units by the end of 07', 360 would reach 13.0 million units by the end of 2007, and PS3 would reach 6.0 million units by the end of 07'.

Optimistically - but realistically each console is probably capable of exceeding those minimal goals by 30% (7.8 million, 15.9 million, 19.5 million), although I personally expect 7.5 million/14.5 million/19 million.

awsome thanks source

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

So the PS3 would do 6 million this year if every week from now on sold as well as the average week so far? How much did it do last year?

Looks like I've been underestimating the big black box a bit after all.

I dont think you got it, The Source said the PS3 will reach 4 million for 2007 alone in a few weeks, but the 6 million figure was including sales in 2006.

edit @ soriku, what!...maths...fail..huh.     OK if the PS3 is about to hit 4 million for 2007 and it's total is just over 5 million, how did it manage 3.5 million last year?

PS3 was at 1.233 million on December 31st 2006

If the PS3 manages to finish the year with more than 7.8 million, then it will have had a better first year (and a bit) than the 360.

Remember that the PS3 had its European launch this year, during which it sold about 0.8 million in two or three weeks... And even with that benefit (and the Japan advantage), its 4th million in 2007 is coming later than the 360s.

If someone has anything to brag about here it's Microsoft, and Nintendo of course. Microsoft had Halo 3 and tons of other good software, Sony really needs MGS4... that's their only hope I believe. It's not just gloom and doom, apparently it's the truth.

@ NJ5, that wasn't a massive benefit, remember that because of that late launch, there were no European PS3 sales at all for allmost 3 months worth of 2007.

by the way in another thread i worked out the numbers for 360 vs PS3 for the first 3 calender quarters (Jan through Sept).

360 total for 2005 = 1.18 million

360 for Jan 2006 through Sept 2006 = 3.48 million
360 for Oct 2006 through Dec  2006 = 3.16 million
360 for Jan 2007 through Sept 2007 = 3.66 million
------
PS3 total for 2006 = 1.23 million

PS3 for Jan2007 through Sept2007 = 3.65 million
______
Interesting to note that from launch to January PS3 managed 1.23M to 360s 1.18 despite only 2 regions

PS3s first three full quarters it managed 3.65M to 360s 3.48

And for this year 360 and PS3 were incredibly close up to the end of the third quarter (or the second quarter financially)

----
Those three facts make me think you are wrong about your PS3 prediction The Source, because the PS3 has done better overall in it's first year than the 360 did, so it should manage more than the 7.8 million that the 360 was at before 2007 started. (slightly over 8M has been my number for a long time)

Beat that The Source you analyst god.

You're right TWRoO, I didn't consider that... It's complicated to take that factor into account, but in any case I see at least a slight disadvantage on the PS3's side... Sales went down too fast after the European launch, and the impact of the Starter Pack was very small (smaller than the impact of the recent price cut).

How is it a benefit to start selling almost 3 months later than the others?

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

Good to see that 360 sales are doing good. PS3 is moving up.....gotta give them props for that.

Its a benefit in context of 07 sales as that Euro launch considerably increased the weekly sales average for the PS3.
