The girl is not only disinterested in having him arrested, she's actually personally suggested she should go to court herself to get the case dismissed. She said the years of questioning from DAs and the media attention has damaged her and her family life as much as the incident itself has and she just wants it put behind her. I don't think she should be allowed to though. By being a minor at the time, I dont think she can ask for the case to be dismissed like an adult rape victim might be able to do. Plus she already sued him out the ass and won years ago, so there's always that.

Honsetly, the reason she's saying that is likely that she's received many deaththreats from douchebag Roman Polanski fans.

It happens with celebrities all the time.  They rape people and then if the raped person trys to stand up to them they get shit like....

It's actually why our criminal justice system has a clause that makes it so DA's can still prosecute cases that victims don't want prosecuted.

If they had a reason for standing behind him I guess I could understand...but do they have a reason for standing behind him?

It just seems like they're upset a popular director is being put in jail for something he did after he fled?

Well the last movie he appeared in was Rush Hour 3, which is a pretty harsh punishment in its own right. I think he should be jailed but I feel it was in bad taste to arrest him when he was going to accept a lifetime achievement award (seriously they gave him an award???). Why the hell did he go anyway, should have seen it coming.

It's not knee jerk to want to see a man who admits to his crime paying for it, thats just common sense.

He did it. He admits it. He ran. Now he should finish paying for it and the justice system should work out how he should pay and for how long. 

Plain and simple the man needs to come and face his past.  There is no information that changes that fact.  In fact any information you or Onymeth care to bring up is truly only valid once he does come back.  Because the court of public opinion is not where the man needs to clear his name (despite many braindead celebrities and foreign politicians who think that is the case), where he needs to clear his name is in a court of law.  Which is exactly where he should have handled the issue over thirty years ago.

This really isn't a complicated issue.
