Forums - Gaming - FF13 TGS 09 TRAILER....3 hours to go! (We have ALL been waiting for this)!!

Actually, the grinding part of the game was only 40-50 hours, and not even that was hard too, which is point of the discussion. You could grind hundred of hours in Oblivion to get all the map explored too, and that wouldn't affect the difficulty per se.

All RPG's can be easy or hard depending of your experience with those kind of games, some people find WRPG's easy, some find JRPG's easy, it all comes down to skill, and how you play the game plays a major part in it because either you play it, trying to explore all possibilites and strategies that the game has to offer, or you can zoom through the game, playing the easiest way the game allows you to do.

Well, you need to get to a certain point where you can equip the top level armor and then leveling up becomes almost worthless. I do think enemies leveling up with you is completely retarded. The city guards shouldn't be stronger than you even though you just saved the world.

Actually, in that point of the game, you would have such immense power and inventory that you shouldn't be losing to the town guards, even at the highest difficulty. Oblivion's top difficulty lies with Umbra, which, by cannon, is one of the most powerful beings in existance, so it makes all sense to be the strongest being bar the Daedric princes and princesses.

Well, I think that our discussion is getting a bit off-topic, I've got to apologize to Darth for de-railing his thread. I just wanted to point out that people should enjoy games for what they are, and try to find out all their depth and strategy, instead of just scratching the surface.

Of course you shouldn't be lose to the town guards. You should beat them even with starter gear, but that doesn't change the fact that they're 3 levels above you at all times.

I don't mind at all.....if a thread like these provided a means for you to discuss those things, its a good thing.

Besides it was in the realm of RPG's in general, so its not really off-topic.

@Slimebeast

You say that you really wanted to like JRPG's this generation, but then you go ahead and call FF extremely cliched.
Granted, FF may not be everyone's cup of tea, but there are a lot of JRPG's that are far from cliched and that will annul every wrong notion of JRPG's, if you go play them with an open mind, because it's up to you to adapt to the game you're playing instead of the game having to be exactly like you want it, because no game will ever be like that.
If, and I put emphasis on the IF, you want to try some JRPG's that are different from the commom JRPG ground, i suggest you either play Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kazuhona vs The Souless Army, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile, Odin Sphere, Mana Khemia, Earthbound and Terranigma.
If you ever play one of them, you'll be in for a good surprise, as long as you don't go there just to trash the game, like what it seems you want to do for every JRPG.

I agree with this.

Slimebeast, I love WRPG's. I d think WRPG's this gen have done better than JRPG's have ever done. Largely thanks to Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Oblivion. But Lost Odyssey, Valkyrie Chronicles and White Knight have all impressed. As have Tales Of Vesperia and FF13 looks like it's shaping really well. Also End Of Eternity looks good to. Give some a chance and try them. Lost Odyssey was a really good game. Many PS3 owners will tell you that Valkyrie was awesome to.

Lestatdark u listed lots of unknown JRPGs. Im not familiar with them, xcept for Valkyri Stories, but I saw that on that site which ppl can post videos from playtrhoughs on (name of site escaped me). I didn't like it. But I gues i have to check out a couple of the other games u listed.

selnor, how can u say anything about Valkrie Chronicles or White Knight when u dont own a PS3? Lost Odyssey, I think i never gave that a chance because of the combo of JRPG-scepticism and that it has these mechanized monsters. Plus it dont have a demo.

I've played the Tales demo, Eternal Sonata, SO 4 and Blue Dragon demos. I didnt like the linear gameplay and the manga style. But I was mostly shocked about the arena battles, how bad and un-fun that kind of gameplay is.

I dunno, do all JRPGs have these turn based arena battles?

I find this highly ironic because every game you mentioned has a lot more depth than the mash right trigger battle formula of Oblivion. I liked Oblivion and I know the combat was garbage.

And I don't think SO4 had a demo.

No they're not deeper. Oblivion has both tactical turn based combat (which weapon and armor should I choose, which potions do I use, which spells do I activate, which rings will I wear etc) combined with dynamic real-time action (sneaking, avoiding, blocking, hitting, timing, releasing spells, picking targets, running, jumping etc). You can't beat that with JRPG.

Actually you can beat that with a JRPG since you can do all of the above and it's done at a much better level than Oblivion in Tales, ES, and SO4.

Well I say JRPG's aren't as deep as well. They are different. Strictly speaking they aren't RPG's as they were meant to be when they started as pen and paper. The only thing in JRPG's that is RPGish is the level system. It misses alot out from what an RPG was. But thats for another thread.

Ok Darth, then i just want to adress one other point with Outlawauron.
It's true that WRPG's usually cap enemy levels with parameters that revolve around your own player levels. Then how do you explain FF8 doing it as well?, how was it any different than what Oblivion does?.

Selnor,

Please let that horrible debate die. It's ridiculous.

@ Lestat

It sucked in FF8 and it sucked in Oblivion, although it was a little different.

Enemies in FF8 only got tougher every ten levels. This means the enemy is the same level 11-19, but becomes harder at level 20. It's every single level in Oblivion.

thanks darthdevidem01 for another final fantasy XIII video.

Of course it was implemented differently, each game has it's own ways to implement level caps, but the fact is that they existed, and that by that logic, it doesn't make any sense that a crappy Galbadia soldier would be at level 100 if you were at level 100 too.
That fact doesn't take out that FF8 had a great strategic depth with it's junction system, magic draw and guardian force abilities. The same goes for Oblivion.
You're judging a game and deeming it not worthy just because you played it in a simple way and didn't dwelve on the whole scope that it had. That's hardly a fair judgment.
