Forums - Gaming - I miss just looking at the back of the box to decide which game to buy.

I still do it with ps2 games. I'll walk into gamestop and just read the backs of the cases. It was through this method that I picked up ffx back in the day.

I remember doing that back in the PlayStation 1 and Nintendo 64 days, i was around 7 years old to 10 i think.

Really good times.

I never did.
Even back in 90s when i started gaming i had a magazine with reviews as a best helper in choosing great games.

Man, tell me about it. I remember buying Metal gear Solid completely blind just because of the box.

And it is one of the greatest games ever. I do miss those days.

But we still a lot of awesome games today. And we buy less crap too.

talking about game boxes and nostalgia:

don't you guys miss the days where you got more than just a dvd in a dvd case?
the regular editions of many pc games had whole books and huge maps and other stuff packed in to it. unpacking a game used to be awesome. it actually felt worth it...

There were occasions where I'd buy a game and think, "Wow. That was a great game". A month later, EGM, Game Informer, Die Hard Game Fan (they sucked!) or something would come out and I'd read the review.........4/10 or something of that nature!

In a way, I miss buying games without a ton of info, but I think that the money I saved by not buying shit (even though I still go out and purposely buy shitty games, sometimes) makes up for it. I guess, review or not, I'm going to buy what I want to buy. I just have a little information, going into the store, now. If I buy a game that is supposed to suck, and it rocks, good for me. If I buy a game that's supposed to suck, and it sucks, well, I should've known. It was right there in the review.

Velvet Assassin is $23. I'm buying it, soon.

I used to do this all the time, when I was younger. Back when I had my N64 and PS1, good times.

Ah, those simple times. Free read of the game mags to get a feel for what's coming and read some comments, then check out the box and off you went to the 'till.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
