Forums - Microsoft - Halo 3: 2 Years Later and Its Still Selling!

It astonishes me that an FPS can have so many sequels and still sell so many copies. I got sick of Halo after the first two, yet so many others still enjoy it after its 4th iteration, it's really quite fascinating.

Since its release, Microsoft has released two spinoffs: Halo Wars and Halo ODST.

Fixed

so its been 2 Spin offs for Halo 3......so 2 x 3 = 6 & add in Halo Reach = 7

Is Ms trying to say something here, is the FF7 REMAKE FINALLY confirmed as a Xbox 360 exclusive!!!!!

@all

no GTA:SA or Wii Fit are the quickest selling games I think

Halo 3 is fastest selling game of all time.

Ummm, no.

GTA4 sold quicker, I believe, no?

San Andreas, GTA4, Pokémon Red & Blue (I think that Gold & Silver as well), New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, (Wii Play and Wii Sports if you want to count bundled games), Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 and I'm not too sure about it but it's very probable that both Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort will surpass Halo 3's numbers in a shorter time. And I'm sure I'm forgetting many titles that sold much faster than Halo 3.

One thing that I wonder, how come Halo is so popular on Xbox, while it burned and crashed on PC? I remember playing it on my pc a while back, and it didn't make any special impression on me (same as the whole pc world). So while we continued to play Counter Strike, Quake and other multiplayer games, Halo rocked the world of consoles?

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

^ Pretty much. It's more appealing as a console shooter due to the simple controls and addicting multiplayer. People with heavy PC FPS experience would feel the same (at least, that's what I heard from some PC gamer friends).

We could say many things about its 3,000,000+ launch. "It's Halo!" "Look at the advertisments!" "So much hype!"...

But when the game continues to sell so well two years later, the reason becomes all the more clear: It's a great game all around.

Congratulations to the Master Chief. What a way to finish the fight.

Halo was created with analog controls in mind.  Player movement has momentum and such which is rare(if at all) in PC fps games due to the digital nature of a keyboard(ie, moving forward, or not moving forward).  Also, gameplay is affected heavily due to keyboard and mouse.  PC FPS games need to have faster character movements in order to offset the extremely accurate and easy nature of shooting someone on a pc.

Halo is basically a completely different beast.  Weapons, vehicles, melee, and grenades all done to arcadey perfection.

The advertisements had this much of an everlasting effect. Everyone knows that Halo is the bread and butter of the Xbox.
