1up gave it an A which is a great score
The only thing I agree with after playing the game for a couple of hours is the tedious combat bit. The reviewer exaggerated the encounter rate big time though. Black Sigil has an "absurdly high" enounter rate. Persona's is high, but not that high. Not even close. As for the backgrounds, they're quite nice in a dated sort of way.
Also, for people who are holding off because of the music, let me tell you that after two hours of playtime, you'll either come terms with it and accept it, or outright love it.
i trust Gamespot,
The Good
* Intriguing story with two distinct paths to follow
* New, more authentic localization.
The Bad
* Tedious combat
* Boring, ugly environments
* Absurdly high random-encounter rate.
yes i agree with these actually , this game is made for Hardcore fans, and they didn't change much about it, the original had issues (i had it ) , they didn't remove these issues only ported it.
which shows how much Atlus likes their fans (since they didn't want to change it alot)

This. ....And their reviews are never consistant. They suck.
Gamespot actually makes the best reviews =s. im not talking about the scores. i meant the reviews themselves. too much good info that you might wanna know.
High encounters rate in a turn based rpg annoys me at this point of my life, thats why i loved FFXII battle system, superquick to fight minions of enemies
Did they ever give any of Atlus's games a decent score?; If I remember correctly, X-play didn't like the soundtrack
It's consistent with their other PSP RPG reviews.
They gave a 5.0 to Crimson Gem Saga, which average a 7.9 at the time (7.8 now), and it's second lowest is 7.0
They gave Monster Hunter Unite a 6.5, while it has an 8.3 average.
They gave Star Ocean: First Departure a 6.0 while it has an 7.4 average.
And for some of PSP's greatest RPG's like Jeanne D'arc, Disgaea 1 & 2, and FFT: WOTL, never over an 8.0
