Forums - Sales - Denise Kaigler says Wii has greater than 50% market share

this is a joke!! :p.

but certainly even by shipment wii isn't over 50% especially ps3 stealing the thunder from consoles past month.

If she was rounding, why would she say "more than" instead of "almost" or "roughly".

She could be mistaken, but I would find it quite strange if we knew Nintendo's market share better than Nintendo themselves...

So, every tracking service is wrong?

We don't know if she's talking worldwide or US. If US it means *both* tracking services are wrong, and we are aware of places that NPD don't track (they use weights to estimate).

If it means worldwide then that would be what it indicates, although the other possibility is that they've managed to sell a lot more consoles to retailers recently than retailers sold to consumers, somehow. Perhaps retailers were already getting extra stock at a cheaper price ahead of the price cut? I don't know.

Actually, in terms of shipped she might be right.

We know Nintendo was building about 2.5m Wii's a month since last... october I think... This would mean there are 10m or so sitting on shelves/warehouses/trucks/etc.

That could put them slightly over 50% based on Nintendo's internal projections of how many MS/Sony have shipped.

Maybe?

By NPD figures, Wii does have nearly 50% of the market ltd (~21m out of ~45m). I believe she is referring to 2009 figures for PS3 + 360 + Wii though, where 3.55m Wiis have been sold against 7.04m Wii + PS3 + 360s combined.

Shipments through September are probably at about 50% for Wii as well going from the X360 launch in 2005. Since the Wii launch, Wii is roughly 52% of all PS3s + 360s + Wiis shipped worldwide, and that figure shouldn't change much through the Sept 2009 quarter.

She means DS and WII

The question that was asked is specifically about the Wii, and the answer is strictly about the Wii. Why would you think she is talking about the DS?

yeah leo what were you thinking!

maybe denise hasn't looked at the recent figures lately
