Forums - Microsoft - Let's talk sales! ODST sells more in 24 hours than KILLZONE in 29 weeks!

We can be quite sure there will be a Halo 4 and a 5 too, there is without any doubt a very strong Halo fan community amongst XBoxers. Sony really can't do anything against it (and most probably doesn't even try, despite what blindest fans wish), the most sensible thing it can do is to try to build as many strong fan communities it can for its exclusives, but it's likely the biggest ones won't be for FPS games, that's XB territory. The only one that can screw Halo is MS itself, it keeps total control on it. So the only person in the world Halo fans must be afraid of is Ballmer Oh yeah, then Halo is really screwed, I didn't realize it, silly me!

Just goes to show you that MS knows how to market games.

Or that the Halo franschise is the best selling console exclsuive shhoting franchise. That MIGHT have something to do with it....

2 typos. You rushed that one, didn't you?

(joking of course)

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Any fps with "halo" in its name will always sell well. And halo 3 odst is no exception.

Isn't this argument getting a bit old...Nintendo has the biggest games this gen...so that logic would say it has the best marketing.  Maybe gamers just prefer the game, over other "better" games out there...

Basically, I'm in and out of threads, it's an exciting time! LOTS of gaming news, lots of reasons to be excited, but had to come and again let people understand just how ridiculous it is to have expected Killzone 2 to sell anywhere near Halo levels. If you ask me, ODST is FANTASTIC, as is Killzone 2. Too bad many people won't play both and enjoy both, but pit them against each other needlessly.

Ah well......

CGI-quality,

It just to show that the xbox fanbase likes to compare games by sales and think that more sales mean better games, even though it's not always true.

Just because its old does not make it untrue.

My sentiments exactly...when I say, you can't compare the two...KZ2 came out a while after Halo 3, so techincally, ofcourse it's going to be better on certian points, just like Gear of War 2 was much better than Gears of War.  And with regards to sales, it would be comparing my 100M skills to Usain Bolt...

*yawn............. Anything else better to talk about? Did someone expect Killzone 2 to sell more??? Maybe if PS3 had the same number of consoles as the Xbox in america, there would be a more valid comparison (2x more xbox sold than ps3 in America) but even then, Halo to xbox is like Mario to the Wii. As long as Mario is in the title, it will sell millions whether it's a good game or not.

This thread is pointless. If you want to look at who has really sold the most, Wii fit sold more than halo, so did Wii sports. So did mario kart.

Why don't I make a thread called, Wii Sports sold more than Halo..........

But MS marketing is not extraneous to this: the game is good, but they helped it building around Master Chief a superhero mythology similar to comics heroes' ones, this appeals a kind of fanbase that's particularly strong in USA, but it is enough in Europe too so building a consistent world around the game and its characters help them dreaming better and enjoying more it. I must admit that besides not liking consoles gamepads, another reason I'm not very impressed by Halo, despite considering it good, is that I'm not into superhero mythology by any means. Or to say it better, I'm into ancient mythology, particularly Greek and Scandinavian ones, but not in modern ones, that are almost always built with marketing in mind (the series and franchise I hated most since its birth was and still is Transformers, as particularly in its early years it was so evident it was totally soulless and artificially designed to sell toys and other merchandise).

Even though I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, just in case you aren't, please don't. It's just showing that one person's irrational behavior can be countered by other people's irrational behavior.

Yeah... except comparing two games that share nothing in common is irrational behavior, whereas, comparing two games that share almost everything in common is not.  They're the same in everyway but sales, and just because one was obviously going to sell a lot, there is no reason why they shouldn't be compared (except to protect people's fragile emotions).  Just like how Sonic and Mario were always compared.  The same way Forza should (will) be compared to GT5 when they both release.  They're the same games for their respective console.  GT5 is going to sell way more than Forza, but they should be looked at side-by-side.

Just because a game doesn't sell as much doesn't mean it's not just as good.  Please don't think I'm trying to make that claim.  I think it's impressive what Halo does and I think it shows Sony what is possible.  I do think this thread should have just been the sales number and a congratulations though, but having it's sales compared to a very similar game gives me a better understanding as to how impressive it really is.
