Forums - Gaming - Netflix coming to PS3 and Wii eventually.

http://www.psu.com/Netflix-headed-to-PS3,-eventually-News--a008153-p0.php

If you are looking for more video download options on your PlayStation 3, you will likely have an additional service via mass online rental company Netflix. In a recent interview with Reuters, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said he’d like the video service available on all systems, not just the Xbox 360.

Microsoft has an exclusive deal with Netflix right now, but Hastings believes the video rental service will be available on all systems.

Eventually he sees the service coming to portable devices like the iPhone, however; the company is focusing its efforts on consoles and Blu-ray players, and Internet TVs.

“Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs,” he said. “So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven’t characterized it more than that.”

Hastings joined the Microsoft board of directors in March 2007. As for when the video service will arrive on the PS3, it seems unlikely it’ll be any time soon as Hastings did not give a specific timetable.

The wording here is whats important.

Its obvious by "currently" as we all know its got a timeframe. So we now can be assured its coming. We obviously dont know when, but the fact its being discussed already is encouraging to us non 360 owners and lovers of movies.

Netflix is the reason why I think movie piracy should not be considered illegal.

Anyway, this is what Aaron Greenberg said about this when asked by Joystiq...

"I don't think we've publicly disclosed the details of exclusivity, but we do have an exclusive arrangement with Netflix, and so obviously there's Netflix – I can tell you this holiday you won't find on any other console. I can't speak to 10 years from now or many years from now – forever isn't a word that we use a lot in this industry."

haha. i love how he says this holiday and then jumps 10 years. Not that i expect him to say anything like this year its exclusive but next year who knows, but still....that jump in wording is pretty stupid.

Good.. the more Netflix enabled devices, the better.

As long as Reed's in charge, it won't happen - unless Sony coughs up a lot of mulah. Why?

MS moneyhat, konfirmed!

He's a member of the Microsoft Board of Directors - and he runs Netflix. It will be a cold day in hell before Netflix shows the PS3 any love.
