I hate hearing about all these great series that need sequels or should be re-booted because since my console experience is limited to PS3 and a few PS2 games, it makes me feel like I missed out on a lot of great games...

You Did. During the PS1 era for every High selling 3rd party game on the PS1. Sony created their own version of it. Final Fantasy=Legend of Dragoon, Metal Gear Solid= Syphon Filter, Gran Turismo,
