lol the Slim price drop made MS phase out the pro model and drop the elite price by $100 and now the Wii is dropping by $50! Hah and people thought it would have little to no effect.

I agree that a cut won't be in response to PS3's one, but more to sales damage done by rumours themselves, but if true, ouch Nintendo! Because we perfectly know PS3 needed a cut anyway, so the rumours did a predictable damage to sales when they intensified before the actual announce, and another two weeks or less were damaged after the actual announce, but during an anyway dull period. But for Wii it's different, the damage before the supposed cut is bearable, it's selling more than decently even in its worst weeks, and they never lasted more than a single week at a time, up until now, and having another Xmas with slightly lower sales, but a huge profit margin, would have been better than a huge Xmas with smaller margins. There was still more than enough time to cut price before Xmas 2010. If this happens to be true, we'll learn that competitors can't touch Nintendo, rumours can.

Heh. I don't even know anyone with a PSP. IMO its a lost cause. They need more/better games. DS is a juggernaut.
| The Ghost of RubangB said: This one was already posted. But so far it went... Target, Wal-Mart, Italian GameStop (saying it was limited to 5000 sales), Nintendojo citing a retailer conference, then Best Buy. All with the same date. GameStop is the only one to mention a limit, Best Buy even put "after price cut" in their ad. |
Maybe because of that "far" in the previous period, but I misread it "Wal-Fart"...
The Wii price cut (if it actually comes, I still think a bundle liquidation is at hand) is in response to slowing sales of the Wii in 2009, because stupid Nintendo has not released a AAA big name game for the last year and a half. The Wii has simply lost too much steam.

You think the Wii would have dropped its price even if the PS3 slim had never arrived?? I would love to see you prove this.... but I doubt you could.

id love to see you prove that the wii price cut wouldnt have happened if Slim hadnt happened.
to me its clear the falling sales of the wii have much more to do with it

I thought they'd just release a AAA game instead of cutting the price.
The price cut has little to do with competition. It has to do with Nintendo upping the production of the Wii and now it has to continue to sell numbers close to those that in order to fulfill contract obligations to suppliers and contracted deals with unions (if Unions work similar to the U.S. in this way, I don't really know)...
These aren't exact factors, but Nintendo had to arrange for supplies, shipping, and labor for all those Wii consoles they were selling. The cost of paying the minimums v. lowering the price to up sales a little and meet the minimums, probably has more to do with it.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
