Forums - Sony - Some thoughts about Uncharted 2.

@Magnifico

You're exactly right, it IS unique. I was really impressed with Uncharted. It was how console gaming should be.

I think that there has been many more than 2.5 million people to play Uncharted, the game has been heavily traded which we cannot track.

As others have said, the short length and lack of a multiplayer persuaded many people to simply buy the game used or rent it to save money.

I might actually go as far as to say that closer to 3.5-4 million people have owned the game or played through it at some point or another.

I do not know why MotorStorm 2 didn't do better than MotorStorm 1, considering they improved everything. But it was released in the same quarter as Wipeout HD, Pure and Baja, and many people complained about the demo...

With Uncharted, there is the possibility that it will follow the same path as Jak, where the original sold more than the sequels, even though each one improved on the previous game (assuming the VGChartz totals are accurate):

http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=jak&console=PS2&publisher=&genre=&minSales=0&results=50&sort=Total

I'm hoping that it does sell better, so that there will be an Uncharted 3, as I really enjoyed the first one.

I feel the same, I think U2 will sell less than U1, but it will sell well.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

uncharted 2 will have a lifetime of 5 million if advertised like gears of war only better kinda ad

This prediction is terrible. You can't compare the sales of a game from a time when the PS3 install base was half the size it is now. U2 easily gets 5 mil lifetime. I still have to get Uncharted 1, but I've bought way too many games being jobless so waiting til the holidays. I will most likely wait for a good deal with U2 before I enjoy it as well.

I knew I would regret clicking on this thread. Damn my curiosity.

Anyway, I would reply and say why all of that is baloney, but I've posted it at least five times, and I don't feel like typing it all out again. So, I'll summarise.

-Resistance 2 was awful compared to the original
-RFOM was a launch title, Uncharted was not
-Uncharted released next to Modern Warfare, and that didn't hurt it.
-Same with Assassin's Creed
-Those two have improved in their sequels? SO HAS UNCHARTED
-The PS3 is on a sales roll, it's just had a price cut. This will be its best holidays ever.
-Uncharted 2 is getting a hell of a lot of coverage and awards
-Uncharted 2 is getting awesome reviews

I could say more, but that should just about do it. And PLEASE, do NOT play the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo and claim they are impressions of a rental (no, I will never let that go. At least until you admit you have never played the full version of inFamous).

Plus, Bugrimmar, you don't have the best history of sales predictions.

1.) Uncharted 1, because it was a new IP, only sold a mediocre amount in the beginning. It kept selling, though, and reached above 2.5m.

True.

2.) I believe it reached this number because of A.) Bundle, B.) Lack of other good games on the system back when it was released, C.) Time (it's been in the market for 2 years).

A) It wasn't extensively bundled, just with the premium version of the PS3 in one region. B) Not really. Warhawk, CoD4, ToD, RFOM, Heavenly Sword were all released. Though I agree that the PS3 has a far better lineup now. C) True.

3.) Resistance 2 sold less than half of Resistance 1 because of those 3 reasons. R1 was pretty much the only real good exclusive the PS3 had back then, was bundled, and has now been in the market for 3 years.

Resistance 1 was HEAVILY bundled. The PS3 had NO other good games when it released, and furthermore, R2 sucked.

4.) Uncharted 2 could suffer the same way Resistance 2 did. I'm thinking that Uncharted 1's 2.5m sales is just like Resistance 1's 3m sales.

You shouldn't be.

5.) Modern Warfare 2 is on the same release window. Though they aren't in the same genre, people's $60 can only go to so many places. In some places, they can only go to one.

As I said, different genre, and COD4 launched alongside Uncharted. No effect.

I have Uncharted 2, despite the rave reviews, going for less than 500k first week, Possible, but I say around 600k

much higher than Uncharted 1, because it's a sequel and a fanbase has been created. However, because it's a sequel, the sales are going to be extremely frontloaded because the fanbase will buy early, so I don't expect any legs like Uncharted 1 had. I doubt it'll reach 2m. LOLWUT?

(Everything I'm saying is Uncharted 1 = Resistance 1, so Uncharted 2 = Resistance 2) Joke thread?

Might as well tackle it point by point, too.

Didn't Uncharted sell 2mil before being Bundled with 160GB?

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

Well, look at Gamestop's current bestsellers :

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?Ns=UnitsSold%7c1&N=0

I don't know if they keep this list updated, but right now Uncharted 2 is on #2, and above MW2...

And a look at Amazon for whatever is worth :

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_vg_1_1

It's also on #2 (and Halo ODST at #1, if you consider the other 2 games just recently released so that explains their sudden -and soon to be brief- appeareance at the top).

Not too shabby.... GO UNCHARTED!!!!
