Forums - Sony - Geek Squad will HELP SET UP your PS3 for $129 only! (RIP-OFF)!!

I believe complete surround sound setup is $500 and TV installation is like $200 more. So for ~$1000 give or take they can set up all of your gear!

Why would you need to have it set up? Is the PS3 more difficult to set up or something?

1) ps3 set up is identical in difficulty to a 360.

2) geek squad will charge the same to set up a 360 or a wii.

3) yes, people do buy this shit.  my girlfriend's dad is one of those peoople.  he recently bought a sound bar for which the only set-up was to plug in the speaker, plug in the optical audio cord, and set the TV to send sound to an external device.  American wanted to charged $200 for the service of setting it up.  He did finally agree to let me set it up for him (free) but he was really worried I wouldn't be able to figure it out.

wow thats unbelievable

i got another one for ya.

so i'm sitting down waiting for the train after work.  Some guy sits down next to me, sees me playing my ds starts talking to me.  he just wanted to know a bit about the ds as a system but then he tells me the most unbelievable story (imo).  it was shortly after the holiday and the ps3 is at the time just a bit over a year old which means that you, i, anyone could easily walk into any store and buy a ps3 for $400.  but noooo....this guy starts bragging to me about how for the holidays he got his kids a ps3.  he said something to the effect of "i was browsing craigslist and i found this guy who was willing to give me a great deal on a used ps3.  yeah, he only charged me $1500."    i nodded politly but inside i died a little.

He must've been joking. That just dosn't sound true.

I can't really offer any proof other than my word but i promise you he was not joking.

Well lets see, I have been to countless homes where people not only don't have there PS3 hooked up right, but a lot don't have it set up right either. Same goes for the 360 and Wii. I have seen people.....supposedly intelligent people......have the PS3/360 hooked up through composite and state to me how great the HD gaming is. Then I proceed to turn on the correct resolution or hook it up correctly and there mouths drop. Same goes for cable/sat. People paying for HD for years yet have been hooked up though coax or composite. Trust me, there is a need for this service.

EDIT--- To add to this, a lot of people have Geek Squad come set up there internet/router. These same people would have to figure out how to get the PS3 to work with it. Chances are the will not know how, let alone where to go in the PS3/360/Wii menu. Hell most wont even know what the hell a firmware is. The other benefit is that I am pretty sure they will bring along the latest firmware and do it locally instead of downloading it from the console.

Yeah, that's why Gabe Newell doesn't own one.

This is why they throw Geeks in lockers and take their lunch money.

Would this be a reason to justify the bullying?
