Forums - Sony - NEW GT5 DAMAGE Gameplay....Paris Game Festival!

GT5 = Arcade racer confirmed?

The game looks very nice but you can still crash into the wall of a corner at 130kph and rub around it losing very little speed. The large roadblocks don't slow your car down either. They're weightless. If you had one of those stuck under the front bumper you won't be going anywhere.

There still doesn't seem to be any physics damage other then your car turning slightly in one direction.

Also what the hell was with the crashing into the first car head on near the end of the video? They hit and then went through eachother like ghost cars.

The left door which gets hit off by the other car seems to have disapeared once it lost connection to the car also but I think it may have been carried off by the front of the other car. I can't tell with the video quality.

I know this is still a WIP but don't expect much to be changed in the final version. Proper damage is not quick to implement.

1/ exactly the same thing showed at Gamescon
2/ still too light
3/ it looked to a gameplay replay to me considering the angle of the camera

Time to Work !

The damage is pretty unimpressively scripted, and lacks a lot of features that damage should have. This is clearly late-development tacked on. This could be done on the PS2, and doesn't include things like pain scratching and minor damage details that would show the current level of damage we should be expecting out of racing games (See: Grid, Dirt 2).

Luckily I don't like sim racers anyway.

It's sad that most people that jump on this game have no idea about what features are and are not in the game. For example the game does have mechanical damage but sadly some cannot wait for commets like "GT5 = Arcade racer confirmed?" After a couple crashes the top speed of the car decrease and if crashes continue the car will just total. Visually the game have paint wear for the cars but it's hard to tell though.

GT5 will have roll over, visual damage for a small amount of cars and mechanical damage for those cars as well but hopefully all cars. Having repeated the same thing 50 times now on this forum I'm no longer going to bother.

He says that damage affects handling :

At 1:20, he says that the car's parallelism is dead (car begins to go to the left).
At 2:30, he says that the car is not as powerful as it was before.
At 2:40, he says that the gearbox is still working but the car is not powerful anymore when you arrive to the 4+ gears.

(sorry for my weird english, I'm french)

End of '09 predictions :

Playstation 3 : 36M
Xbox 360 : 38M
Wii : 71M

This damage is no different from what we sa at Gamescom. It's basically affecting just the hood, front bumper and doors.

That's a very durable car lol, it's impossible to total it apparently.

yes they do CGI

I agree......some parts DO look absolutley splendid & like real life!
