Forums - Nintendo - "Core" Wii userbase in Others is critically lower in 2009

Throughout 2009, when I have been looking at the Others charts (for Wii games specifically) I have been noticing an alarming weakness in "core"/traditional whatever crap name" games that have come out this year.

Some games are so low, that they aren't even tracked within this territory. The fitness/mini-games have taken a strong foothold this year, and have seen great success, but almost ALL else has tanked. Games can barely hit 250k now.

The competition may just have the software on lock in All-Others it seems and nothing is changing that until.........2010? Nintendo has to do something over there, because it is getting scary. Europe has never been their strength in the past, but with like 15m+ or something units over there, they can get some work done.

Links to charts depicting what you're talking about please.

Also, so what?

If all people want to do is play fitness games and minigame collections then let them. That just means that Nintendo ships more Wii Fit and fewer Super Mario Galaxy to that region. If gamers in those regions really don't care about core games then I say companies stop selling core games in those regions and give the people who live there what they want.

^ I don't want Wii fit :(

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't think many of the core games that have come out this year on Wii are particularly big in Europe. I'm not concerned. I'll still be buying Monster Hunter 3, Metroid, Galaxy 2, NMH2, S&P2 next year....

Oops. Appears I threw a list into this thread.

I remember SEGA at least saying that House of the Dead performed strongest there. Other core games, especially Nintendo's core games from this year, were geared to do poorly in Others. Punch-Out!! was riding on nostalgia that was never really there, and ditto for Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I too have noticed this trend. Seems bizarre. I I'm usually imbarassed for hardcore wii games in NA- but with Others it is doubly so.

I'd like to know which games that came out this year should have been bought.

I see i'm not the only one, then...  :)

I'd really, really like to buy more Wii games, but this year so far, the only 3rd party i've bought was Little King's Story... and the next one will be Muramasa... thank God Rising Star's here, otherwise, NOTHING...

Oh yeah, i've purchased Mad World, too, because i was a huge Clover fan, and sold it two weeks later: i didn't like it at all, simple as that...

I've also rented HOTD: Overkill, and will buy it when it's cheaper, or in 2nd hand... rented many others, and they're not worth the money...

And only two 1st party games purchased this year: Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Pikmin 2 NPC... two excellent releases with great value for the price, but two reissues anyway...

So, that's three 2009 Wii games in my collection so far, and there's just nothing i can do: i'll not force myself to buy so-so games...

2010 will be very, very different, though... the "core" wii userbase, as you say, will finally have a chance to show it exists... it's not lower, it's the quality and the quantity of Wii games released in 2007, 2008 and 2009 which are way too low... a shame for this industry, btw... a real shame...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

I can't remember the last time a quality 3rd party core game came out in other regions. that wasn't a niche title or gimped port.
