Forums - Sales - New PlayStation 3 SKUs boost sales 178 per cent

+ 1 for DonWii,

Situation in France (lol 2 shops, 1 big+1 little in Paris)

PS3 is selling better.
The 60gb is selling better than the 40gb.
The PS3 is selling better than the Xbox360

(from them it is more or less always the case except around Halo3/price cut weeks)

The guy at retailers are telling to everybody than the 60gb will not last forever and that IF they want one, they should pick up one NOW. It is why people are rushing on the 60gb model.

They also saied to me than when the 60gb is sold out (in less than 2 weeks maybe),
the PS3 offer will be for XMAS :

40gb 40gb 40gb   noRC noRC noRC     400$ 400$ 400$

Do you think they will introduce the 80gb model at 499$ ????
If yes, when ?
this Xmas ?
later in 2008 ?
never ?

In other hand, It makes complete sense with the 40gb+PES bundle at 430$ and the absence of bundle with the 60gb model : the 15 november : no 60gb model in PAL territory.

Time to Work !

I think that the 80GB in EU is definite, they just want to clear the 60GB out first.

I'm just interested on what effects this will have on the Vgchartz numbers...

"The PS3 60GB is proving very popular, even with the introduction last week of the 40GB model. 89 percent of purchasers opted for some form of 60GB model,

The 40GB model only accounted for 10% of the sales. It seems people are just grabbing the 60GB-with some form of BC, before the 40GB model becomes the standard.

Is Sony going to continue using some form of this strategy in every market to gain a small boost in sales?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I doubt it somehow. I think they sold the 80 GB in the US to get rid of the motherboards. For me it looks like they planned this SKU a long time.

To be honest, I have no idea what Sony is trying to do anymore.

I've been attempting that Blood Red PS3 ad for the last 2 days, to no avail.

I can see the ad now:

"Buy a PS3 today, for tomorrow we will only offer a shittier model! Get in now before it's too late!"

Seriously, this sucks for consumers. It's bad enough that they're stripping features but to actually discontinue the "real" models is downright slimy. Meh. Just more of Sony being Sony, I guess.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

People aren't buying the 60gb model just because of BC. They are buying the 60gb for BC, extra HDD space, SD card slots, and two games, for only a bit more than the cost of the 40gb ps3. The 60gb ps3 also received a price cut, don't forget, and the new starter pack is an excellent deal.

I think the standard from now on will be a low end 40gb model without SD card slots, BC, etc. for all territories, and a high end 80gb model with everything (though software BC) in all territories.
