Sony owns the intellectual property for the DISCS, but not the players.  As it is, Sony gets about ten cents per disc sold or in other words 100% of the royalties....haha I know it's hardly anything, but this is money that sony doesn't really have to work for, so a lot more of this revenue goes to profit as compared to the 5 or 6% margins that a lot of companies get these days.

read my post, Sony might get something off being apart of the BDA but they don't directly get anything off BD sales other than their own movies. The 10 cents, if they even get that, is given to them by the BDA.

ok, you must think that it sure was cool that Sony did this, just so that other people can profit from their idea.  I thought that there was no such thing as giving away your money but apparantly you have set me right.  Thanks.

'The Dewey Cox Story' was $47! friggin dollars on BR at HMV (in Canada) last time I checked. Ridiculous! That was the worst example of an overpriced BR I've come across. I do buy BR's though, have 18 discs including the Planet Earth box-set and Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles season one set. Still a bit pricy for a lot of BR's, but I've noticed the gap between the cost os DVD's and BR's narrowing. When 'Seth Mcfarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy' came out here, the BR was the same cost as the DVD ($20).

but your in Canada. everything released in canada is overpriced... isnt the PS3 there still like $500?

ss12.....anybody can join the Blu ray association, even apple and microsoft have joined....but I highly doubt that they will get money from any source.

that is because they arent apart of the BDA board of directors. well I think apple is, but apple hasn;t done anything apart from adding blu-ray support to OSX.
