Forums - Gaming - Is This The Best Gen And Could It Be The Longest Gen.

Yes Yes Yes!

This gen only needs a new SSX!

I'd say this gen is the most important to the future of gaming since the third generation (NES/Master system)

So, the inclusion of the third dimention in games, console shooters, realistic racers, RPGs getting popular, the survival horror genre and much much more (the 5th generation) wasn't important?

This generation isn't important at all to anything, it brought motion sensing gameplay, and that's it, multiplayer was in gaming long before and much better than the Xbox live.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

i think the term "best" can mean so many different things. i have favourite games from the early 90s and from the last couple of years, but graphically and technologically yeah this is the superior gen, but then every new generation WILL be, i guess..

i think it will be the longest because console manufacturers have finally created 3 beautiful machines that, between them, can do everything and satisfy every gamer (and non-gamer)'s desires. and the machines this gen are all pretty impressive..

i'm a happy bunny. and i still plan on buying both a 360 and a PS3slim in the near future because im pretty sure they'll be around for a while.

Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are always working to improve tho, so... happy happy happy.

The best years of gaming were 94-2000. But there were some awesome games before and after that.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The current gen is absolute garbage, $60 games, frequent hardware failures, and generic, western-produced fps tripe abounds. Atleast Nin introduced a new way to experience games, otherwise this gen would have been a wash.

2011 folks, 2011. That would put this gen on par with last, if we date last gen from the US launch of Dreamcast to the 360 launch, and it would be six years again from 360 launch to 720/Wii2 launch year (PS4 will come later, if i have any foresight at all)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

lol. Nintendo is the weakest link this gen when it comes to gamers. No online, no community, no voice chat, average of one game every month thats worth buying...

Yeah controls were innovative at first but anyone that has the wii for more than 3 months should get used to the input mechnism. To me at this point both motion controls and regular controllers feel the same...been there, done that. Its all about the games now, something Wii is not known for these day.

Dreamcast is kind of a transitional system, it is between PSX and PS2 eras. Pre-Wii/PS3 Xbox 360 is not very relevant to this gen as it was essentially just last gen games with higher end graphics. The launch of the Wii and PS3 was the beginning of this gen.

It is a terrible generation for games.

I agree.
All the AMAZING games were in the PS1/N64 generation.

I agree, for my taste, the PS1/N64 was the best gen ever.

However, it pretty much depends on your favorite genre.
Platforming? Snes/Genesis, with the first Sonic games, Super Mario World, DKC and more.
JRPG? PS1, and I hope I don't need to explain why.
Shooters? Pretty much this gen.

You see, I don't think there is one "best" gen, it depends a lot on what are your favorite genres.

I think the PS1/N64 era had everything good though.

Great shooters like GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Turok,

RPGs like the FF series and others.

Survival Horror Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Racing games like Gran Turismo and a load of others.

Fighting games like Street FIgther Alpha series, Tekken, Soul Blade

Platforming had Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot.

Pretty much every genre had some of the all time greats.

...did you really list Gran Turismo and not Mario Kart? =/
