Forums - Sales - What % of PS3 Slim Sales are Phat PS3 owners REBUYING PS3's?!

I know a couple . One of them is a bit of a "tech head" so it wouldn't surprise me if he has or will buy a slim. Not sure if he plans to. I could see a few people who just have to have the latest tech re-buying a slim. Don't think anyone who did so on this site would admit to it. Whilst ioi did say his percentage of people who re-bought was speculation i think we may see some estimated figures from him.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

It's at lesst 20-25% worldwide I think. At least another 15-20% bought it as a Blu-Ray player first and foremost. Software sales were not that great overall after the PS3 sold over 550K units. software sales should have increased more then 210K. I have a phat 60GB PS3 and have no plans of getting the inferior PS3 Slim version.

I'd say under 1% globally. No one I know has even mentioned it, and the hardcore fans who would want the coolest ps3 out there, would probably stick with their old BC 80gigs rather than upgrade to a slim...

Will when my phat gets YLOD.

Currently playing: Marvel vs. Capcom 3, League of Legends

the only two persons that i know that buy the slim didnt own a ps3 before... all my friends are happy w/ their fat versions (myself included because mine is a precious 60 gb version) and realy none of them told me that was their plan to get a slim for the fat... i think its below 15 % the exchange percentage! software numbers arent really important because many people have friends w/ ps3 and borrow games to the try out, rental and second hand games are pushing the numbers down also...

It really doesn't matter for Sony, if a previous ps3 owner buy's a new Slim, he/she will sell their ''old'' PS3 to someone else. With means the install base grows by the same amount. And in turn they will have to buy games for their PS3 aswell. It would only be a problem if someone sold their PS3 to buy a 360/wii in return.

Actually it does matter to Sony (even if just slightly). It probably reduces the attach rate, due to two reasons:

1- Not everyone would sell their used console.

2- People who buy used consoles in the cheap are also more likely to buy used games instead of new.

I bought a slim, reluctantly, as my PS3 phat YLOD'd. I have to say, I much prefer it - despite the fact I thought it looked as ugly as sin in the pictures, which has been a nice surprise.

I traded in my phat for a slim!

Edit: Now that I think about it, I've spent $900 on PS3 hardware o.O

Less than 20% of the first week sales is my guess.

An and heck, less than 5% of the second week's sales.

I still have my phat.
