Forums - Sales - What % of PS3 Slim Sales are Phat PS3 owners REBUYING PS3's?!

Definately some people did it, i would expect quite a few especially in Japan. But you wont get a good sample on a forum

No, but wouldn't mind adding it to the console family later.

We need to calm down. being aggressive of data that we will never know and for obvious reasons Sony will never reveal (not without a spin) like any other hardware manufacturing company.

If we want to be reasonable, then we must all accept that there is a percentage of users that bought or intend to buy a PS3 slim and already own a PS3. in order to be know how high, unbiased parties need to go around the worls asking this question with carefully chosen population samples to avoid any deviation of data. So assumptions won't even touch the tip of the iceberg.

However, there are reason why current consumers would want a new, redesigned model that practically does the same thing. The answer lies in the consumers' way of thinking. Some customers will buy a slim PS3 just because it's new, they see the fat one as old and want to move on (giving it to a relative maybe), in a similar case why many DS owners went to DS Lite, went from a thin-flast screen TV to a thinner one with the same resolution, from big ass TV to bigger ass TV, etc.

Hardware manufacturers know that with releases of new designs they will get that extra percentage in sales from current customers. However it's their decision to see if that percentage is relevant or not to go that route.

I know fanboys that buy a slim PS3 just for the sake of supporting Sony...

I agree with the last line.

@ Smashed. So you know better than ioi now? Perhaps you ought to do the weekly sales numbers from now on then?

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

What? ioi said himself in the analysis that the numbers of "second ps3 buyers" is PURE SPECULATION.

You know what speculation means, right?

Perhaps you ought to read before making assumptions. Where did I say I know better then ioi, point it out for me, and we can get along.

I have a Phat one. Probably not getting a slim.

So it isn't speculation on your part then? I know whose speculation i would be most likely to give credence to. Unless you have some sort of hard evidence, other than anecdotal?

ioi does the numbers around here, so when he comes up with the "speculation" numbers, I'll believe it.

Until then, it's all speculation, and more common sense, how many people do you know bought a PS3 slim, that currently own a PS3?

It matters insofar as people that do are theoretically costing Sony money rather than generating money as they will have less need to go out and purchase a host of games as they presumably already have some/alot.

Having said that, people who buy a second PS3 when they don't need to are presumably the kind of people who spend alot of money on gaming anyway and probably buy far above the average number of games, but there is no way to know.

So we can only speculate about the percentage that are rebuyers and can only speculate on their game buying habits. In the end a system sold is a system sold and we are probably just better off waiting to see how the numbers pan out in the short to medium term.

old 40gb user here.
dont plan to buy a slim unless my fat dies.
