then classics are an even more rare animal than I originally anticipated.

I hope you weren't trying to prove my point, because you did.

Actually it proves his point, most companies don't know how to make classics, Nintendo does, which is one reason they are one of the most profitable companies around

This is where I ask you what classics and then you tell me your opinion, which I will disagree with, unless you say wii sports.

This is a typical forum argument, no offense, which I will not take part in. Ico isn't a classic? Ok

/conversation

Ico sold less than a million, and outside of gamers most are unaware of the game

Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

-Costs are ballooning. $600-$400 for launch game consoles. $60+ for new games. Endless ‘limited edition’ packages that are filled with garbage.

Has this guy heard of inflation? Can someone run the numbers on this?

Also, how much were N64 games? I think they cost around $70.

And N64 was beaten, so clearly the market didn't like it, also even if you argue inflation, Its still too expensive, why do you think used game sales are so strong

Used sales are strong because there is no reason to get a new game when they offer a warrenty and lower price.

Yet people still buy some games at full price, see the thing is if a person doesn't think a game is worth the $60 they'll wait for the used version, if a person thinks a game is worth full price they'll buy it new, which is why Nintendo keeps selling its games at full price

And people felt the games were worth it, and many were, they are games that are now classics, most games today will never be classics, and aren't worth $60, let alone even $50

God of war, uncharted and SOTC, ICO are not classics, ten years from now no one will be playing them

Climbing into your time machine made of bullshit again I see.

I will remember SotC and Ico forever, they were an experience that will stick with me, the fact that I don't play them everyday doesn't change this.  Just because you have never seen what's great about these games doesn't mean they aren't classics.

Now this is just going to lead to another debate about the definition of classic. Because apparently, to be a classic for you, it needs to sell a lot and be popular.

You may remember them forever, but you are a minority, people who come into gaming ten years from now aren't going to want to play them.  People still enjoy playing games like the NES Mario's and Zelda, Starcraft  is a game that people who never played it years ago think is fun, even though its more than ten years old, these games are iconic, and can keep on brining in new people, regardless of their age.

what's your proof of this? You have none, it's just a prediction made by a HEAVILY biased individual who has a tough time seeing anything worthwhile beyond the halls of Nintendo. You constantly crap on anything that is outside of their jurisdiction.

More people will play Mario and Zelda and Starcraft because they are more popular and more well known. As always, this doesn't mean they are better.

A $50 game in 1985 = $98 in todays dollar.

The market has judged them better, see this is the flaw of many they think they are smarter than the consumers, no, that is foolishness

And they were worth it, on the other hand, I wouldn't pay even $60 for most games today
