"Viral messengers, posing as ‘gamers’, are polluting message forums and comments from various websites in the shape to ‘change public opinion’. Anyone who deserves a place in Dante’s Inferno would be computer virus makers and viral marketers posing as regular people. I want viral messengers *gone*."

Where does he get this from? I think he's overexaggerating this a lot. I've never met a viral marketer disguised as a gamer.

You realize, of course, he's talking about select fanboys? Viral marketers usually aren't paid employees.

I've never properly debated Malstrom.

Maybe one of these days I'll feel like it.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

This is not exactly true zen.

viral marketing is simply marketing by word of mouth, through networks, by people. I virally spread the ps3 price drop to 60 people on my cell phone the day I heard about it. It's using the persuasive strength of interpersonal relationships to change opinions.

People on websites and irl do this a lot, and are paid to do it.

Actually the hula hoop girl fro wii fit was thought to be a viral marketing scheme. Both her and her boyfriend work in the marketing business, and the boyfriend said that he wanted to work for nintendo.

Yes, ok, but what exactly was wrong about what I said?

Let's talk about how Nintendo doesn't take chances with new IPs. Instead they re-release the same franchises ad-infinitum, and put out easily made OIPs like wii sports and wii music.

Then if you tell them you are bored with their games they tell you, "I don't understand, this is what you wanted", completely disregarding that it's possible to make more than 2 games a year. When you then ask for some of the lesser known franchises, ones which don't have 7 installments, they say "You want that? But you just said you wanted new IPs. You're moving the goal posts around".

Thanks Nintendo, thanks for taking the easiest road. Thanks for telling me that the reason I don't want a wii, is because I'm asking for the impossible....which are somehow possible on both the ps3 and 360. Variety, what a novel concept.

are you serious

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

It's a hazard of the internet.

That said, while your point was nice and all, it in no way discredits with my point, instead pointing out that some people are indeed not fanboys, but paid spies. Some are also fanboys, and so I can only assume that you felt I implied that he was only talking about unpaid fanboys.

That's wrong. He is talking about a select group of fanboys, all of whom are biased, and most of which aren't paid. The fact that some of them are paid, and that we can pretend that unbiased humans exist is a completely unrelated discussion which I never gave an opinion on that could even be considered incorrect.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I believe the games industry is doing a perfectly fine job of destroying itself, we don't even need to rally against it for that to happen.

From reading this thread, i don't know who's more insufferable, Malstrom, his supporters, or his detractors.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Only on the Internets... these holier than thou articles annoy me but I'll bite.

This is just a well written rant with easy to understand concepts which are actually either spun or not true. It's the kind of writing that appeals to the lowest common denominator.

All I have to say is that even in the industry that's run by profits I've had some of the greatest gaming experiences...

I enjoyed his business model which insists that developers should make games that will become classics. It's like telling the average musician to make the record that will put you into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. If everyone could make a game that would be a classic don't you think they would?

Statements like that show lack of respect for the entire gaming development community. Not only does it imply that current game developers are not trying to the best of their abilities, but that people who have revolutionized gaming are actually just regular people who decided one day to make a classic game.
