Biggest Dutch retailer boycotts PSPgo

PSP News by Robert Purchese

Holland's largest specialised retail outlet, Nedgame, has decided not to sell the PSPgo this October. And, the shop explained to Eurogamer Holland, there are a handful of reasons why.

The hefty price-tag of €249.99 being one of them. That's €80 more than the PSP-3000 costs, a difference Nedgame believes the new handheld does not justify - the smaller screen is picked out as an example.

A more telling reason is the lack of a UMD drive. That means Nedgame cannot sell games for the PSPgo, which is where retailers make the most profit. And, as downloadable games will be tied to PSN accounts, trading and swapping will fast become a thing of the past.

Nedgame also mentioned its discomfort at Sony creating a monopoly on the software sold on PSPgo.

Eurogamer Holland goes on to point out that Nedgame are not the only Dutch outlet to boycott Sony's new handheld.

Eurogamer Spain has also heard rumblings that retailers there may do the same.

Well this does not sound good.

But for me a UMD drive lacking handheld with a smaller screen and a not so good design for 80€ more than the original PSP 3000 is strange anyway? Why should I buy this? I can have all the features on the PSP-3000?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

A lot of companies would be smart to do this, but I temptation will get in the way. Smaller profits is better than no profits in some eyes.

Yeah the psp 3000 is better. The pspGO is too much money.

Nedgame? our biggest retailer? Yeah right... they have 8 stores in the country.. and most of them in the north of the Netherlands... Intertoys, Bart Smit, Game Mania & Media markt are way more important then Nedgame..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I'm Dutch and I have never heared of the store, they also seem to only have location in a couple of cities. It is the largest of all the special gaming stores but the other 30+ gaming stores with 3-4 locations will still sell the PSPgo and so will the large multimedia shops and toystores. Personally I would like to see the PSPgo fail aswell (same with the DSi) but it won't fail due to availablity.

I never even heard of Nedgame

I predicted this back before the PSP:Go was even a rumour. I said that a companny would be daft to bring out a digital distribution only console/handheld because retailers wouldn't stock it, unless they could make hundreds of dollars profit on the hardware.

I predict massive sales for the Go.

As in...1 million LTD.
