Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo needs to remember what made them this generation's #1 in sales...

@ puffy

I think calling this a 'blue ocean price cut' is a good description. The value has stayed the same and actually increased relative to the other consoles but the time has come to attract more new users.
Do you think Nintendo's hopes for WSR are being realised? Has WSR 'boosted' sales but been unable to stop a general decline?

If Nintendo believes WSR is doing it's job but sales continue to fall then Nintendo must know that bundles and colors aren't enough and are unlikey to attract new gamers anyway. I still think Ninty might have planned a cut after 3 years or once they hit 50M, Iwata isn't exactly going to broadcast a possible price cut. This will also keep the Wii tracking higher than the DS for a little while longer.

Sayonara, so sorry to see you go, I hope you had a good time while you were here.

Quickly. Take what you have, and flee to the last sanctuary of PC gaming, before the disease finds you. It's too late... for the rest of us... (collapses)

Its too late for that, PC has been infected with...Flash games

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I'm loving the ignorance in that those type of games aren't the only ones that appear on the Wii.

What ignorance? The Nintendo dude said it himself: "maybe they should make more nongamer influenced games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports".

I know those aren't the only games that are on the Wii, but those kinds of games are definitely what Nintendo has been focusing on this gen aka the Blue Ocean Strategy. If Sony or Microsoft did the same thing, I'd just quit. Unless of course Apple stepped in and put out "gamer's games" and not "nongamer's games" <---Only company I can think that would remain

I'll see you to the door.

Would you like the shattered pieces of your ego wrapped in paper or plastic?

Yes, because Sony makes ONE game like that...that becomes their entire focus of the generation. Nice cherry picking

I'd understand your complaint about Nintendo focussing on casual gamers and not hardcore gamers if it was indeed true, but Nintendo has produced more "core" games for Wii than they have any other system in the past.

I don't think nintendo is trying to capture the non-gamer to the exclusion of gamers. I think they are trying to capture a market composed of ALL people.

In this way they HAVE to have a broader marketing strategy, one that attracts gamers and non-gamers alike. I am not saying that a price cut is needed. I don't have the time to play market analyst for Nintendo. But if a price cut IS needed to spur hardcore sales, then they should have a price cut.

Saying that Nintendo is not competing with Sony or MS is a bit near-sighted. They are competing with them. They want gamers to buy the wii, because they want everyone to buy one. Their target markets overlap (well actually, Nintendo's target market encompases Sony's and MS's) so thy are very obviously in competition for their shared market goals.

and how mant games has nintendo made like that on their console

wii sports, wii play, wii fit and wii music.  so thats 4.add in sonys singstar and Buzz games and its roughly the same. the only difference is that nintendo's casual orientated casuals are extremely successfull and therefore gain more attention. this is the big thing that confuses me.  peoples belief that having casual titles lowers a consoles quality no matter what other games are on it. my friend loves the DS since hes an RPG fanatic but he says he will never buy one because it has  cooking mama on it. to me that make sno sense at all

and one of your favorite games is guitar hero....  lol I guess that's ok since it's not a Wii exclusive.  Oh well, you'll be missed.
