Doshin the Giant is a wacky ass game for the GC that sadly never made its way stateside (like Disaster: Day of Crisis):

Basically, you're a giant hanging out in the ocean messing with islands and stuff. It's kinda hard to describe. You have to play it.

Actually I think I remember seeing a trophy of tha in Super Smash Bros. Melee

very very strange.

I'm not surprised they didn't localize it, though. =(

I don't care about the "Blue Ocean Strategy" or "expanding the audience". If Sony or Microsoft go the Nintendo route, and have games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports be what they focus on...I quit games

and one of your favorite games is guitar hero....  lol I guess that's ok since it's not a Wii exclusive.  Oh well, you'll be missed.

And one of my favorite games is Halo too. So what, what're you getting at? If you're saying those games are comparable to Wii Fit, you're wrong. You don't see organizations having Wii Fit tournaments with $1,000s of dollars in prizes if you..get this: WIN

I love how you throw in Halo and then compare that AND Guitar Hero to Wii Fit.  I, however, only mentioned Guitar Hero which is an incredibly similar type of game to Wii Sports.  BTW there were quite a few Wii Sports tournaments with cash prizes if you..get this: WIN.

If you hate Wii Sports because it's "expanding the audience", but love Guitar Hero which is "expanding the audience" then you are being hypocritical.  If you will leave your hobby because of this ridiculous reason well... you will be missed.

Sony and Microsoft have already started focusing on similar games.  Amazingly, companies can focus on these new types of games AND still create the same games they always have.  If you will leave your hobby because of this ridiculous reason well... you will be missed.

Why are y'all ignoring the GameCube? I swear, the GameCube is the most underrated console ever.

List of "core" Nintendo games on the GameCube in the first three years (published - I'm too lazy to look up developers):

Luigi's Mansion (excite truck) OK
Pikmin (Twilight Princess) No, GC Game
Super Smash Bros. Melee (Brawl) OK
Wave Race (Punch Out) OK
Eternal Darkness (Batallion Wars 2) OK
Metroid Prime (Metroid Prime 3) OK
Star Fox Adventures (Super Mario Galaxy) OK
Super Mario Sunshine (Sin and Punishment 2) No, Doesn't count, it comes out next year
Doshin the Giant (Japan/Europe only) (Another Code: R)  None made it to the USA, so none is counted
1080 Avalanche (Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat) No, GC Game
F-Zero GX (New Super Mario Bros) OK
Kirby's Air Ride (excitebots) OK
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (plus Master Quest, etc.) (Fatal Frame 4) No, Not released in the USA, I can't play it
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (Mario Strikers) OK
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Mario Kart Wii) OK
Wario World (Wario Land Shake it) OK
Donkey Konga (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) OK
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (Super Paper Mario) OK
Mario Power Tennis (Mario Super Sluggers) OK
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Metroid Prime Trilogy) No, rerelase and GC games
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Disaster: Day of Crisis) No, won't make it to the USA
Pikmin 2 (tact of magic) No, won't make it to the USA
Pokemon Colosseum (Poke'mon Battle Revolution) OK

22  vs  15

Yes, ALL of those games were released before the end of 2004, and I even left out a few like Mario Party, WarioWare, and Animal Crossing. Nintendo has only grown each generation, and that's why their N64 titles outpaced their SNES titles, as shown above, and why their GC titles outpaced their N64 titles.

That's my main issue with Nintendo this gen. Despite being larger (and richer) than ever, their release list is smaller than ever. I mean, seriously, only Punch Out, Wii Sports Resort, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii for this whole year? Are you kidding me?

Look at the GameCube. By this point in its life, we had seen a new Paper Mario, Super Mario, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc., PLUS new IPs like Pikmin, reinventions of old favorites like Metroid Prime, and new iterations of franchises like F-Zero, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and WaveRace. We've gotten half of that on Wii.

Why haven't we gotten more WaveRace, Mario Tennis, or Mario Golf? Those franchises would be PERFECT for the Wiimote, but instead we get tech demos like Wii Sports Resort. They're demos of what *could* be in something like WaveRace. Why not give us WaveRace?

The only game there not yet released is New Super Mario Bros, but I think we can all agree since it's releasing so soon, it should count.

Other games I didn't mention:

The NPC games    NO, GC games

Endless Ocean    OK, I'll name Cubivore for the GC

Warioware, mario party, and animal crossing just liek you did   Also on the GC and more than once

link's crossbow training  I can mention NBA Courtside 2002 for the GC

Mario and Sonic (well i guess that was published only in japan)  I can mention Custom Robo for the GC

captain rainbow  NO, it isn't coming to the USA, remember all the GC games mentioned above made it to the USA

Wii isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

GC had more core games available in the same timeframe.

Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

This is just my opinion, but it is based off of something.. right?

I would argue that the wii has mariokart, and super smash bros as core games.
both of which should have seen better iterations on a "new" console. Oh and there is the metroid series.
In my eyes there has Not been a legitimate Mario or Zelda game yet on the wii. One was in actuality a GC game, and the other is Mario which is waggle combined with rails... It is a good game, and the best since Mario 64, so I guess it counts... I just want something as good as Mario 64, probably never going to happen.

point being, as a core gamer, I would argue that the wii has ~5 truly core games. All of the others are simply core franchises reskinned to fit the wii.

don't chew me up here, this is just my opinion. Maybe I am just too old for the wii? All I know is that I am still not too old for any other Nintendo console in the past.

If there is any hope of people like me ever getting a wii, this price cut and a real ZeldaWii will have to pass.
I love Nintendo, but I miss them as well.

The PS3 hasn't gotten an Ico title yet. This is just my opinion, but I would argue that the PS3 still has no core games! Maybe I am just too old for the PS3...?

In all seriousness, the first party lineup on the Wii has probably dipped under the GC's recently (late 08 / early 09 hasn't seen enough), though the third parties seem to be on the situation. It's looking like the Wii's library will really take off from the GC next year, from Nintendo and third parties.

Yeah. Zelda will make it all better!

Nintendo published titles in America, separated by year:

The numbers in parathesis in the Total column are the total number of games after the fourth calender year.  This allows an easier comparison to the Wii.

Games are separated by calender year, mostly because it was just a lot easier to do it that way.  The fourth year for the Wii is 2009, and unreleased games Wii Fit Plus and NSMB Wii are represented as (+2).  WiiWare for the fourth year could also grow.

I did this mostly for my own benefit, but figured this would be interesting enough to other people.  I just wanted to see how some of the claims in this thread would hold up.  These are all games, because I think the core/casual thing is mostly BS.

I have no response to that. I guess you win.

Seriously though, speaking seriously.

I've never believed in the "core" or "casual" divider. I only use it as an acquiescence to the need to communicate using common language.
