Sony is a freaking dickhead for asking for extra content. F#$@ them for letting the PS3 owners to have the incentive to buy ToV at full price. Damn you to hell! Sony. I hope you go bankrupt!

/sarcasm

So...If Valkiria Chronicles were to be ported to 360 a year from it's release..Bare Bones port..with no extra content...as a Console owner I can justify not wanting to pay full price becuase it's a port?.....I don't get how that works....

Yes, knowing there's a cheaper version. I will feel that's a rip-off if I bought it with that price. I can't justify to pay a $60 to a 1 year late port with the same content and where my excitement for that game has dwindled down. I'll just wait for a reasonable price because I am better of paying full price for the newest game. That's why if there's an extra content just like ToV I'll feel that it's worth the wait and  the said price is worth it.

Well, That's just me and I know I am not alone.

But...what if I want to play this game but don't want to buy a console for it, why would I complain about it coming to my console a year later?...(Which is actually the case I have agaisnt PS3 at the moment...But that Red and White Slim looks like it needs to be in my room :/ )

Why should you, as a 360 owner, pay $60 for the EXACT SAME game, when PS3 owners can buy it for half that ammount? Won't you feel that it is unfair?

Why would I?...Since I'm a 360 owner...and don't have a PS3..If I want the game....which will be released New on my console....I should have no problem paying it even if it's the same exact game with no extra content...Plain and Simple...you etheir buy the game twice(Being a dual Console owner) Or you buy the game once on your system of choice...Sony atleast was smart to force NamcoBandai for content...they now have something to tout about...But my point stands..if the case were reversed...360 owners interested would buy at full price even with out extra content...This fantasy world were game devs are lashed for charging for their work needs to be left behind...

You didn't justify anything at all, you merely stated the obvious facts. If anything you're just saying that you have to pay 60 dollars because you're stuck with it.

I'm asking why should you? Why didn't they just release it at the same time (reason: money hatting). Why did they release the later port with extra content (because the port is being sold at an higher price than an otherwise identical game)? And no one's obviously denying the RIGHT of devs to charge whatever they want. They can charge, I don't know, $70 for a game because they know it'll still well. However, we also have the right to criticize them, and not buy something we don't find worth the price.

Yes, you have the right to your opinion...It does not mean that things should be the way you think...

Sorry to reply when you're banned. I just want to make the point that a consumer has every right to feel entitled to something, and you didn't explain why you don't think that things should be the way I think...

In fact, I agree that it's fair for Sony to demand and get a better version of Vesperia, so it's actually you who should explain why things should be the way you think.

Sony are dicks blackmailing devs like that. I don't believe Nintendo does that and Microsoft certainly doesn't.

That's the reason why Sony beated Nintendo and Sega on the PSX/N64/SAT days. They're persuasion masters.

This is why Sony is the number one gaming company, smart business.

Number one gaming company?  Correct me if I'm wrong isn't the Wii and 360 ahead of the PS3 right now?

Smart business?  How many billions have Sony lost since the PS3 launch?

tell me when one NIntendo or MS home console reaches 100 million sold and more. Or even 90. Or 80

What are teh numbers for all of the Nintendo console sales?....

And Even if Sony were to take second place this gen...it won't make back any of the money it lost...it would have to hope that PS3 continues to sell well after this gen is over....and even then...it won'tmatter..for we will be in a new Gen.wi...

Best selling nintendo home console is NES with 61 million units sold.

And i dont know if sony is gonna take 2nd place, but they will make back the money they lost, because playstation brand is profitable again

when I said for all..I meant add all of them up...

When did Playstaion brand become profitable...I'm not even going to bother linking...but right after the Slim Annoucement..Kaz told the NY times that the Slim line Hardware was not profitable....Your misinformered or delusional...

I thought he said the HW wasn't profitable but the gaming division was - wouldn't that mean the Playstation brand?

Playstation brand has been losing money over the past few quarters...It is hard to draw a direct comparison to Xbox, since M$ lumps it all under EDD...but we know M$ spent a pretty penny on getting out Zune HD, while zune old was losing money like crazy, and they have been spending alot of money developing the new mobile OS to compete with the iphone...so it's hard to make a direct comparison, for those who want ot.  Nintendo on the other hand...you can...and you can basically slap an ATM tag on the wii.

There is so much illogical hate towards Sony going into this thread that it's simply baffling.

People are actually blaming Sony for demanding extra contents on a year late port?

Namco went exclusive because MS bribed them with cash yet Sony is to blame for demanding extra content after Namco has made off with the cash and now wants another platform's userbase to have sloppy second?

What absurdity.

Namco made a business decision that they believe will make them the most profit. Cash from MS for the time exclusive and then extra profit once it gets ported to the PS3 which obviously has a larger fanbase for this game. It even seems to have paid off which is what really annoyed me.

Neither MS nor Sony are the villain in this case, the only one that I'm slightly miffed at is Namco who once again show their greed by wanting the best of both world and got it.

"Namco went exclusive because MS bribed them with cash yet Sony is to blame for demanding extra content after Namco has made off with the cash and now wants another platform's userbase to have sloppy second?"

and you wonder why there so much "sony hate"...

Lets try another selective quoting to justify 'sony hate'

'Neither MS nor Sony are the villain in this case, the only one that I'm slightly miffed at is Namco who once again show their greed by wanting the best of both world and got it.'

Well THAT didn't sound right aye?

It's as simple as that.

Lets put it this way, Namco had 3 choices on what to do with ToV.

Make it a PS3 exclusive to captalize on its market share - make the least money

Make it a multiplat - more money but probably not by much.

Make it a 360 time exclusive, reap the additional benefit from MS with the expectation of reduce sale, then port it to the PS3 for additional profit a year later, banking on the brand name to achieve good sale. A calculated risk that paid off.

I don't think Namco is greedy as many developers have noted developing games have gotten a lot more expensive while at the same time gamers don't want to pay more for games. They still want to buy a games at 10-20 year prices.
I can understand why some X360 fans are upset. For all we know Microsoft could be taken the profits from X-Live to bribe Namco for a one year exclusive which turns around have to provide more content for the PS3 version a year later.

I think people are referring to this recent report.  It's what I was remembering when I earlier said Playstation was profitable as of fairly recently.  Someone then countered that but but Sony Networked Products, of which Playstation is a subdivision, wasn't profitable, which is kind of like you saying that the Zune and the rest of EDD is killing 360's numbers.

Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, told The Times at the inaugural Gamescom convention in Cologne: “We felt it was the right time to pass on the benefits of the fact that we’ve been able to reduce the number of components and their sizes. We wanted to pass the cost savings on to our consumers in the new price point.”

Hirai admitted that Sony already loses money on each console it sells. “If you’re just talking about the hardware alone, the quick answer is yes, we do lose money on every one. That makes good headlines, but I don’t actually know that that’s the true nature of the business that we’re all in, whether it’s PlayStation, Xbox or the Wii.

“I think the better indicator is to look at the business as a whole platform, to say are you profitable in terms of the hardware, software and peripherals. And the answer to that question is yes.”

Both Nintendo and Sony face particular problems in cutting hardware prices, as the Japanese yen has appreciated by over twenty percent against the pound in the past two years, which has had a huge impact on their profits and leading Nintendo to unfavourably raise the UK distribution price of Wii without increasing the RRP, cutting many independent retailers out-of-the-picture. I think as a platform, the PS brand had reached some level breakeven in the past couple of qtrs, but when you chop $100 off the price, it's hard to overcome.  Just looking at a 3rd party game, with 5-15% margin for the retail price going to the console owner...you make out much better on 1st party games, but you'd need to sell an additional 4-5 games more for every console sold...or a mix of periphals as well.  We won't have to wait too much longer, as the winter qtr reports will be here by Feb '10.

I feel sorry for the people who bought this game just to be screwed over by Namco. Tecmo is the same kind of company with the Ninja Gaiden series. Hopefully something comes out of the protest against them.

If you buy a console for one game...you're not getting screwed, you made a really terrible decision...$400 or whatever  for a game you love?!?!  That's riddiculous...

Actually, the PS3 was the one who was losing money, PSP and PS2 are profitable, but PS3's losses were bigger than PS2/P's profits which is the reason why playstation has been losing money for last 3 years.
