Who Has Lost The Most Exclusives?

The answer might surprise you.
By Dustin Rudzinski - September 15, 2009

http://psinsider.e-mpire.com/index.php?categoryid=4&m_articles_articleid=1346

Many people during this console generation have criticized the PS3 for having lost too many exclusives to the Xbox 360. We decided to take a look into exactly what was lost, as well as what the 360 lost and compare the two. What we found was, PS3's lost exclusives, while definitely big games to lose, were way overhyped by the media compared to the number of exclusive games 360 is losing to PS3.

On PS3's end, the majority of it's lost exclusives came from franchises that were once exclusive or timed exclusive from the PS2 generation. Bear in mind the Metal Gear franchise was also on Xbox. Of those franchises, we have:

Devil May Cry
Grand Theft Auto
Final Fantasy
Tekken
Armored Core
Katamari

And as for PS3 games that went multiplatform after release:

Virtua Fighter 5
Cross Edge
Fatal Inertia (Originally planned to be PS3 exclusive.)

Now, on to the Xbox 360. It's predecessor did not enjoy the number of exclusive franchises that the PS2 did, so it simply did not have as many exclusives to lose. That is why most of the exclusives that have been lost have been Xbox 360 games.

Bioshock
Lost Planet
Saint's Row
Oblivion
Dead Rising 2
Tales of Vesperia
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 2
Eternal Sonata

And there is also the fact that Mass Effect's developers refuse to say it will remain exclusive to the Xbox 360 as well. That is a very nice chunk of the major third party exclusives that have been lost to PS3, a good bit more than PS3 lost to 360. Another thing worth mentioning is, to the dismay of many Xbox 360 owners, the PS3 versions of almost all of the games listed above come with exclusive content as well as upgrades in the form of better graphics or bug fixes, none of which will ever be made available to Xbox 360 owners. After talking to a few 360 owners, they have expressed that they feel quite shafted for shelling out $60 only to see the same game release on another platform in a more complete form. While PS3 owners have had to wait as long as a year or more to play these games, the developers have gone out of their way to make sure that it was indeed worth the wait.

So, next time someone says to you that PlayStation 3 has lost all of it's good exclusives, you may want to point them at this article. It has lost some, and those some have been rather big names to lose, but when you step back and look at the big picture, it is the Xbox 360 that is losing one exclusive after another to the PS3, and PS3 is getting improved versions as well.

That said, there are still a rather large number of exclusive games on the Xbox 360, given the one year head start it had over PS3 and Wii. A list of exclusive titles for both consoles can be seen below. Bear in mind that many of the titles on the lists below were only released in one or two territories, and may not have ever been released where you live. Also bear in mind that they may not be 100% complete.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Around the Network

Lol...

But to answer, the most - 360. The Best - PS3. Winner - 360.

Microsoft take exlusives from the release. PS3 get them a year later, and that change sales a lot.

Someone put a lot of thought and effort into something that really doesn't matter that much...

The PS2 exclucives are all over the place..... Sony gets my vote....

I don't think Ace Combat will go to the PS3. It's been out for almost 2 years.

Around the Network

Butt what about Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!!!! Wasnt it exclusive for the 360?

Ridge racer 6 was on Xbox only

Ridge Racer 7 was on Ps3 only

(or is it the other way around?)

you know namco , they always release on multiple consoles, it gives fans a hard time to keep up.

Just like every post you make in like every thread you don't care about....

On topic : GTA was not a Sony exclusive, it was on the first Xbox. I think you're missing Resident Evil. Although I repeat, Resident Evil has never been a Sony exclusive ever since the Sega Saturn and N64 got ports.

The biggest loser of all has been Nintendo since the end of the SNES era. As far as home consoles are concerned, Nintendo NEVER got back the precious third party support that used to be exclusive to them, not even in the Multiplatform way.

Wasnt Assasins Creed supposed to be a PS3 exclucive?

Man, I hate it when people say a PC/Xbox 360 (or PC/PS3, but thats really rare... is there even a case like that?) is a exclusive. For example Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic etc.
edit: Oh yea, how could I forget all those PS3 games that are on PS2 as well, hah.

another edit: Why is Blue dragon twice there?
