Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 720 "not needed" right now, says Microsoft

Seems like they are going the route Nintendo took with Wii, since the Wii is basically a GameCube with motion controls.

The only difference in MS's case is that people with the 360 now will be able to purchase the motion controls to go with their system instead of having to buy new hardware.

Well thats good. I hope this gen last long so we all can get our money's worth.

It's just talk to make the X360 feel fresh and alive.

No console maker will be talking about plans to develop a nex-gen until there's rufly 1.5 years left till launch.

But yeah, I agree Nov 2012 is most likely.

The way I see it, the longer this generation lasts, the better the next generation will be.

I mean look at a 1 year difference between computer hardware, The Radeon HD 4000 series and the HD 5000 series, power doubled in 1 year. Wait another year, and there will be another large increase in power.

If they have their consoles ready to release by 2012, but instead release by 2013, they could have a drastic drop in prices and can launch their consoles for a profit unlike this generation, which I felt was rushed and too much of a power increase, all while still profitting from current generation hardware.

Another interesting thing is, I think the Wii to the next Nintendo console will have the largest graphical leap in video game history, depending on when the new consoles release. While 360 and PS3 will have some of the smallest graphical leaps in video game history.

^ I disagree. I think this gen was just perfect hardware and graphics wise, because still - after almost four years into this gen - the console versions are on par with PC versions, unlike past generations where the difference between console and PC was big almost from the very launch.

A new console would hurt the bottom line. I got burned with the original XBOX, if I get burned with the X360 ill skip the X720 no matter now good they make it.

I think that can be attributed to slower progress than weaker consoles, the CPU is very quickly approaching a bottleneck.

The reason I think the hardware jump was too big is because the budgets of games are increasing far too quickly, and the industry is feeling the consequences with very few publishers consistantly turning profits and several companies closing down. The recession doesn't help either.

I'd be fine if the next gen comes with 4gb of ram with same cpu and gpu just being overclocked..

the only thing that's holding back these HD consoles from truly showing what they are capable of is the lack of ram.

My prediction is, the next Xbox will sport with a HD-DVD drive, that way piracy will be at its lowest as nobody support that format, also Microsoft will add at least 4gb of ram and if is possible overclock the cpu from 3.2ghz to 4.0ghz, same with the gpu increase the speed..

This way the Next-Gen Xbox will be a cost efficient console to produce that may start selling under $250.

4 Ghz is a heat hazard unless they implement a large cooling system for the next xbox, which would increase the size quite a bit. They should just go for an upgraded processor, I would imagine a quad core or a hex core, with a more efficient design.

yeah i agree. theres no reason for M$ to release a new console. either 2012 sounds really good for a release date though

Long Live SHIO!
