Forums - General - New Charles Darwin film is 'too controversial' for religious American audiences

I wanna g back to the movie not getting a distributor...

What if the controversy isn't that the director is shifting blame, or that religious America is to blame... what if he did not really look for a distributor and is now kicking up controversy to peak interest in the movie?

I think it's more that he did look for a distributor and they weren't giving him enough money... so he refused the deal, and claimed this to kick up controversy and hopefully add on some money.

I mean... lets be honest here it's not that everybody said "no way... no matter what!"

It's just that they didn't pay him what he wanted to be paid and he turned down their offers.

In reality it's genius, don't you think Kasz?

I mean the plan would work well, I would do it to get some publicity and an extra million or two if I could.

1. You reject your first deal because of a tiny concern,

2. Make sure that Reuters or another news agent picks up the story,

3. Your film gets into half the papers with the "religion is the reason" as a result,

4. Double your audience and the amount of distribution offers you recieve overnight.

Controversy sells.

Guy doesn't get distribution deal.

Blames someone else.

That's the gist of the story, yes?

By the way. Nobody decided to release my movie " Ultra Ninja Cybrog Zombie Fighters 5" because America is too stupid to understand the intricate details of Ninja Cyborg Zombie fighting.

Also it should be noted that American citizens don't actually decide what's released or not... the distribution companies do.

Though I mean he does have apoint... I mean what... with all the sceintific documentries lining the top of the charts and everything... i mean nothing spells massive blockbuster like scientific documentry.

I mean... if you look at some of the documentries that do get distribution deals... there is stuff far more offensive to christianity then this.

This just didn't get a deal because the producers thought it would be boring and wouldn't sell.

I mean Jesus Camp got a distribution deal.  Dogma was released...  Bill Maher had a documentry that was him calling religious people idiots for a couple hours and it placed 10th in the box office opening weekend.

So no.  I'm not buying what they're selling... and I can't see how anyone can when looking at things logically.

He's just bitter that this has "History Channel" deal all over it instead of "Movie" deal.

im sorry but i really dont buy that "its too boring " for america idea.so obvioulsy the rest of the world can accept it just not america because oh no its too boring.

This film would blatently go against what millions of people believe in and a lot of those refuse to accept the facts of science.

and yes i am a catholic

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

I'm going to go with Kasz on this one.

I think the issue here is that the producers of the movie are pinning it on religious issues that the movie got distributed, rather than the fact the movie may be bad, which is why they can't get it distributed here.

There are plenty of documentaries, TV shows, movies, ect that question or attack Christians, creationism, ect. So I really, really, fail to believe that the core issue is that anti-evolutionists are attacking the movie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one here on the forum has watched the actual movie that can provide feedback to see if the movie is good or bad. What if the movie is just retarded and it's obvious it wouldn't fly for a profit here?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I gotta agree with Kasz on this one. After reading the article I initially thought that the Christian media had something to do with it, but it makes more sense that people thought that the movie wouldnt be profitable.

I know that I wouldnt be standing in line opening day.

I'm glad this movie isn't showing in America I don't want those evolutionist theories to corrupt kids and go against the stated fact in the bible that God created the universe in 6 days.

They're definitely exaggerating the case against them. Pretty sure that some form of evolution or other is accepted by a clean majority of US citizens.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Just 39% of americans believe in the theory of evolution, 25% don't and about 36-37% aren't sure, 44% aren't aware of what theories Darwin is associated with

edit: Sorry misread, 51% believe god created humans, 30% believe in intelligent design, 15% believe in evolution without god's influence

I don't care if you don't think evolution is correct, but simply not knowing what theories he created at all? Don't these people get taught anything in school?

On topic, maybe the film is simply crap? But it can't be too horrible if it got distributors everywhere else. I definitely think there have been some business disputes with the distributors (eg percentage or gross or something) that he hasn't been able to work out with them.

Its like GTA, create controversy. It usually helps ones financial prospects if done correctly.

EDIT I thought Hitler was more influenced by Eugenics then he was Darwinism?
