Yea party social and family, the only think the iphone doesn't do is connect onto the tv.
here is another thing, how much would the PSP have sold had people known it was also a console?

I lol'd. :)

The PSP is selling great. It's just that the DS(and iPhone) were getting more of the software experience people were shifting toward.
In the past the majority didn't want to play Final Fantasy or Pong forever, eventually that which is common between people and their habits shifts. It has been this way in gaming forever. At one point players didn't want fighters anymore or shooters.
The DS filled the gap, and aligned better with the general habitual trend than the PSP did. But by the very nature of being a portable I think the PSP is also pretty damn big. The trend is I think against the PS360 mainly, what's keeping them up there IMO is pure inertia.

It hasn't yet changed in the west, though. Just because Japan is now handheld dominated, does not mean the west will follow (though it's possible). Slimebeast seems to be primarily interested in western games, and western devs have yet to put their major titles on handhelds. Until this starts to change (if GTA Chinatown Wars sold tons), I don't see the problem. |
We can see changes in the west as well. NDS is for example leading the way in NPD hardware sales every month now. And I don´t think you understand the full meaning of japanese developer support. They are still very important and a huge factor in the industry. They are today mostly supporting portable systems which in the long run affects what kind of games we who live in Europe and America get to play on our systems.
It cannot be argued against that consoles and portables compete in their quest of attracting developers attention. They are competetors and should be valued against each other. So the winner of the console war right now is Wii but the winner of the overall race is without a doubt NDS and nothing Sony can do will change the letter fact (and most likely not the former either).
its funny to hear the 360 fan boys talking about sales dont matter ,its about making money, whwn microsofts gaming division has lost the most money by a land slide, not to all, but all fanboys sony microsoft and ps3, do your homework before you come on line running your mouth about stats and sales figures you dont know shit about. all will save face.everybody get off sales, its only been 2 weeks, i hope all does well, we need comp, its good for all, it gives us better games, if your a true gamer you need a ps3 and 360, the more they smack each other the better games we all get. give it a rest, lets wait and see. everybody acts like ps3 was doing sooo bad, they still sold 23 million units in 3 years, about the same as microsoft.
They're not back on top but they're in a healthy position. I think Xbox fanboys who have spent the last couple of years desperately attacking the PS3 are in for a rough time. I also think the games press who have obliged those fanboys by attacking the PS3 while searching for hits will quickly find out it's not a wise thing to do anymore. I suspect Microsoft will need to step upto the plate big time they've got major issues in terms of value for money compared to the PS3 now. Also Sony have atleast 3 times as many exclusives as the Xbox and if not remedied will soon hit them hard. The Wii will continue to do very well.
Oops, I meant a year and a half. Or if it kept the same pace for 3 years. That word DOUBLED in all caps was really bad. I can't believe I capitalized my mistake to draw attention to it. I was drunk when I posted that. Either way, it's never going to happen.

Naw, it is just that if you want any reply's to earn some VG $$ you have to post something about Sony (negative or positive), unless you want less than 20 responses.......

Once again, people forget the DS. A LOT of PS2 owners went DS only. In fact, I think we saw a change in gaming habits from one generation to another.
The handheld overtook the habitual spectrum. The common sense view of the market is only starting to catch on to that, consoles getting most of the attention of the media has mostly to do with the amount of competition, as well as the historical significance. But the reality is handhelds won people over, and are still doing so. Most people are not looking for a certain level of visual quality, or audio quality. They never have. So different experiences, in a living room context, is the main valuable thing that will not be replicated or bettered in handheld form. We're gonna see a lot of duplicated ownership as a result of the slim PS3, so you can expect good sales for a while, but ultimately handhelds are winning people over and that's the bottom line. For fore seeing this problem with new consoles, there's no question in my mind that the Wii will win in the home console realm in the end, despite all of the efforts from certain people to change that. But the DS is also a significant win from the last few years that people didn't really recognize. |
Im a real gamer, so I dont mind graphics, but I surely mind having back ache and having a small screen to look at for a couple of hours. The only 2 reasons the DS sells so much is because its 99$ and is releasing good games, its doesnt have anything to do about the fact its a portable console.
If company X would release the X portable console tomorrow with alot of good game and selling the console for only 99$ a lot of people would buy it. But if company X would also release a home console tomorrow with a lot of game and selling the console 99$ a lot of people would also buy it, probably around the same numbers. I would be willing to bet on that!
Just to make sure you get my point, what im saying is that if nintendo would have release the DS as a normal TV console at 99$, and would have release the same games, it would sell as well. It has nothing to do about portable console winning over, actually ask anyone like me that has a normal console and a portable what they prefer playing on. Its an easy answer!
The only advantage a portable console has is that if someone like me that has a PS3, will maybe get also a PSP or DS so he can play when waiting at the hospital, or when going on vacation, or at work when theres nothing to do, but its surely not because the handheld won me over.

But in my house it is the opposite. My Xbox and Wii are upstairs with my PS3 downstairs. With my Gamecube on the top of my closet. Does that mean teh Gamecube is winning
