^^That is going to be the deciding facctor in the console war, now all them PS2 owners that still love their ps2's will decide who in the end wins, because like you said at least 80 million of them are still interested in the ps2, when it comes to upgrade i hope they chose ps3 because it is the best value for your money, and it does everything

Once again, people forget the DS. A LOT of PS2 owners went DS only.

In fact, I think we saw a change in gaming habits from one generation to another.

The handheld overtook the habitual spectrum. The common sense view of the market is only starting to catch on to that, consoles getting most of the attention of the media has mostly to do with the amount of competition, as well as the historical significance. But the reality is handhelds won people over, and are still doing so.

Most people are not looking for a certain level of visual quality, or audio quality. They never have. So different experiences, in a living room context, is the main valuable thing that will not be replicated or bettered in handheld form. We're gonna see a lot of duplicated ownership as a result of the slim PS3, so you can expect good sales for a while, but ultimately handhelds are winning people over and that's the bottom line.

For fore seeing this problem with new consoles, there's no question in my mind that the Wii will win in the home console realm in the end, despite all of the efforts from certain people to change that. But the DS is also a significant win from the last few years that people didn't really recognize.

Im a real gamer, so I dont mind graphics, but I surely mind having back ache and having a small screen to look at for a couple of hours. The only 2 reasons the DS sells so much is because its 99$ and is releasing good games, its doesnt have anything to do about the fact its a portable console.

If company X would release the X portable console tomorrow with alot of good game and selling the console for only 99$ a lot of people would buy it. But if company X would also release a home console tomorrow with a lot of game and selling the console 99$ a lot of people would also buy it, probably around the same numbers. I would be willing to bet on that!

Just to make sure you get my point, what im saying is that if nintendo would have release the DS as a normal TV console at 99$, and would have release the same games, it would sell as well. It has nothing to do about portable console winning over, actually ask anyone like me that has a normal console and a portable what they prefer playing on. Its an easy answer!

The only advantage a portable console has is that if someone like me that has a PS3, will maybe get also a PSP or DS so he can play when waiting at the hospital, or when going on vacation, or at work when theres nothing to do, but its surely not because the handheld won me over.
