Square Enix has announced that there will be two different versions of NieR. One for the 360, and one for the PS3.
One has to wonder why? Why would they do that?
Simple. PS3 fans have been upset that multiplats are being held back by the limited 360 DVD capacity. And developers are feeling stiffled by the 6.8GB space on 360's DVD-format. There is even a lot of controversy over FFXIII and how the 360 may have possibly hindered the development of it.
Perhaps Square Enix has learned from that experience, and is going to be making two seperate versions of games for each system? It seems like NieR is somewhat of a test, as far as that goes.Make one standard version of the game for the 360, and then a more in-depth, longer game with more data on the PS3 since it's BluRay format is capable of such. Now that PS3 is selling really well, devs won't want to waste all that extra disc space.
Atleast that is what the recent news on NieR leads me to think. And if SE successfully pulls off two different versions of NieR, we could possibly be seeing a lot more of this in the future. It's a win-win for both sides. 360 users can't complain about not getting the game, and devs will still get sales off the 360 user base. And PS3 users can't complain about getting a nerfed game, and devs will get to put all of their creative ideas and art onto the game.
