Forums - Sales - Will a Wii PRICE CUT Have a "BIG" Effect (like PS3's/360's)?!

It'll take a good deal of steam away from the PS3.

I don't think that wii pricecut will do as much as PS3/360 pricecuts.

No it would do a lot like the PS3 price cuts will, a few weeks boosted high and then a fall back, but that is not what Nintendo needs, they need a sustained rise, and that will require software

I don't think so. Wii is already cheaper than PS3 so pricecut won't be as big deal.

So what if Wii is cheaper than PS3, its also overall more in demand than PS3, along ever demand curve there are always those who want the product but aren't willing to pay the current market price

That remains to be seen. Maybe there is more demand for PS3 from now on. Wii sales have been declining for a while now.

No. Reason: Every who wants a Wii has one.

Yeah the PS2 drop to $99 did wonders for it's sales.

To be honest, I think people know the Wii needs a price cut and are holding off their purchase, it doesn't help that all the analysts say Wii needs a price cut which can further hinder sales much like with the PS3 price cut rumors.

A drop to $199 would put it back on par with 2008 if the right software (see NSMB) is released along with it.

I wouldnt mind getting a Wii at 150

No, Wii sales have been declining because of a lack of software, software is way below last year's level, but PS3 didn't see a significant software rise last week with the PS3 hardware sales boost, in fact in NA it dropped 11%, even as hardware took off, this indicates that there isn't a surge in PS3 demand, just a price drop and new SKU excitement

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Eh..hasn't the $30 price cut do some good things for the PS2, and that was already dirt cheap ($130 before)? Why wouldn't a $50 price cut not work?

Anyway they don't really need one in the West but definitely need one in JP with soem more bundles (NSMB Wii bundle anyone?)

omg..,y is everybody using the PS2 as an example..it raised sales yes...but was in astronomical??? no.....just a incentive to get a Console that might not be here much longer

100$ would be a good pricepoint for wii.

I dont think the PS3/360 pricecut impact can be judged just yet. In other words, if it loses steam after a month, then both systems aren't going to be in a good spot.

I think that a Wii pricecut would be similar to the 360 boost, but not the PS3 boost (as most people have viewed the PS3 as the most overpriced system on the market this gen and thus, avoided it)

In the end, it'd take the PS3/360 to drop their top level SKU to $200 to actually try to give the Wii a run for its money, and if the Wii dropped to $200 anytime soon, it'd be the last nail in the coffin vs the HD systems.
