Pachter: 50-100% PS3 sales boost in September

Wii sales expected to continue annual decline.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has issued an industry note reflecting on the newly released August 2009 video game sales in the US, and while August was a positive month for the PS3, much more is expected in September.

"The late August price cut for the PS3 clearly drove a pick-up in demand, with that console’s sales up 73 per cent sequentially, and we expect another 50 - 100 per cent sales growth in September," wrote Pachter.

He continued: "Xbox 360 hardware sales were again solid, again outselling PS3 hardware. Until the late August PS3 price cut, the Xbox 360 appealed to consumers, likely due to a higher perceived value proposition."

Pachter is also sticking to previous estimates for Nintendo's Wii, pointing to a price cut or new bundle as the only way the console will recover from its decline.

"With the core PS3 and Xbox 360 models priced only $50 higher than the Wii, we expect year-over-year sales of Wii hardware to continue their annual declines until the company either changes its bundle or lowers price," explained Pachter. "Wii unit sales are 50 per cent below last year’s level over the last five months, and we think that September sales will repeat the pattern."

Why because he didn't say that the PS3 was going to see a 500% increase in demand for the next ten years?

I'm not a big Pachter fan, but I wouldn't accuse him of being a fanboy.

Yeah it's awkward. Specially as Sept is a 5-week month.

I wonder which month he is comparing to - Aug 2009 or Sept last year?

Anyway, my adjusted prediciton is 450k NPD USA.

I wouldn't call him one either. I was using the sarcasm due to him saying positive things about the 360, I don't know how much you're on the forums right now, but saying something positive about the 360 right now is enough to get you drawn and quartered.

Please Nintendo, do a price cut so that Patcher closes is mouth! Every 2 days the same story, and we are a month far from the October conference...i guess in the last week until the conference he will say the same thing every 2 minutes!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I honestly don't think a price cut would do much for the wii because I've never really seen price as an obstacle to anyone who wanted the console. At $250, it's been "cheap enough" from day one. Ps3 was the console who's price was bitched about everywhere making me think it would benefit from a price cut more than any other console.

A better bet for nintendo may be to release more of their popular franchises and new colors. Also, I think the wii sales should increase during the holidays but I won't claim to be an analyst so take my predictions with a grain of salt

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Pachter still have a job.

how impressive is that?

Pachter and his price cuts. Not every console needs a price cut to be popular.

Again...why is everybody screamin for a Wii pricecut???..the Wii is dirt cheap and im sure the price has nothing to do with its lower sales( not even bzd sales)..I also doubt a pricecut will do much for it
